So, finally stripped the 80"s Colnago Super I bought last year. The bike hadn't been ridden for years and was very dusty.

Thoroughly cleaned to frame to see if she needs to be resprayed. IMHO I think I will not respray but rather have her scratches touched up and new logo's painted or fit new decays. What do you hubbers think?

Initially I thought the colour was a deep wine colour but it looks more candy apple red, especially in the sunshine.

Quite sad to strip off the old decals especially the head tubes but it needed to be done.

The chrome will restore fully with only one or two small rust spots remaining after a bit of elbow grease.

My thoughts at this stage are to have Colnago and the clover painted in white on the down and seat tubes, not sure of the top tube.

Guess a visit to one of the airbrush artists is a first step.

My daughter's paternal grandmother; as I am not married to her father, my daughter's paternal grandmother is neither my mother nor my mother in-law, the totality of her connection to me is that she is my daughter's grandmother. Welcome to the muddy waters of non-nuclear family types

Rode my Daccordi in the Herald tour last weekend!

Other than a few creaks, she rode like a dream, unlike me!

I made a fundimental mistake. I did'nt change the gearing and with 1135 metres of climbing, I struggled. My highest gearing was 39/25, so it was a matter of:

"Old man's legs and young man's gears".

But I did enjoy.

PS" I've had preliminary discussions with Herald organisers to include a 'classic' section next year. They are very, very keen and I'll explore it with them further at a meeting in August.

So get ready to fly to PE for the Herald tour 2015.

Yeah, agreed, a classic bike ride somewhere in SA would be fantastic. I think that if we can get one of the bigger road races interested, others might become interested too.

Once we have enough interest, then maybe we can start our own. The UK one really looks as though it's going to be fun. Lots of pubs on the route and they're brewing a special beer for the 3 day occasion!!

trying to plan on the UK one for sometime in the future.

here we should do something crazy like the K2C on 80's road bikes the day before or similar.

make it an amazing day out.

Hopefully, I'll let you know. Talked my son into riding with me, 100 miler, and if all goes according to plan, I'll have 2 weeks to build 2 classic bikes. I've got a Guerciotti and a Carrera over there, but I'll need to adapt them. Brake cables have to 'show' and no deep section wheels, but I have most of the stuff there already.

Interestingly, they allow compact cranks, so that will make riding a bit easier.

Just for clarification, what is considered a "classic" bike?

My 1988 (I think) Miyata has aero-levers and the rear brake cable runs internal in the top tube.

I suppose there are as many definitions as there are 'old' bike owners.

But, not to reinvent the wheel, we can use the EROICA rules (www.eroicabritannia.co.uk), which basically state that the bike must be steel (any age and the only ali bikes allowed are Vitus and Alan), downtube shifters, no aero brake levers, though cables can be routed through frame and strapped, flat pedals (other than Cinelli clipless).

They allow compact cranks!

So, your steel bike can be any age.

The aero-levers are a problem since that was the spec that it came with in 1988 :(

Yeah, I understand. Shimano had aero from about 85 as I recall, but when I questioned the rule they said that was the l'eroica decision.

So I'm just going to replace the aero ones with non aero for the day

I have two old bikes from school days (25 to 27 ish yrs ago). Are they worth anything to anybody? (would be nice if they are collectible, rusty so not much hope) Some components have been allocated on retro thread already.

Tyres are shot, bit of rust on some components. Will need a bit of work i suppose, but not sure the makes are worthwhile. Made in Taiwan is the operative comment here. Otherwise i will see if a charity is interested.

1) Sprinter. weighs 2 tonnes, component names i have not heard of recently.

2) Samson ladies bike (will get photos if anyone interested.)
