So most of you have seen the before pics of my Alan Record. Thanks to Loose cog's help with the seat post and general advice etc its done...Loving it. Still not 100% but the going to keep as is. So without any further delay, please meet Eleonore, after her face lift: Cinelli stem and Cinelli Giro D'Italia bars, Shimano 105 Groupset and hubs, Campagnolo Lambda Strada wheels (tubes topped up with sealant) some no name brand but comfy saddle. Took her for a test ride yesterday pm. It was my first time ever on a road bike but it felt ok. Now I need to decide between keeping her and letting her go. Will go for another ride the weekend and then decide. And yes, the wife isn't aware of the couch pic ok??

Hi All,

Much excitement... I own my very first Steel Frame bike.

A Bridgestone RB-2. I like the look of the geometry and the condition is impressive, she has been stuck in a roof for 10 years!!! A bit of Googling and I'm guessing this bike is a 93 model.

Specs...

Shimano Exage Group

Wolber WTX Rims with 105 hubs.

The plan... This is where I need some advice/guidance.

- Replace the brake lever hoods... Where can I get these?

- Rebuild the wheelset with new spokes... Who is my best Cape Town option? And what is the expense likely to be?

- Clean and polish the components

- I would like to put on gum walled tires

- Touch up minor chips on the paintwork and clear coat the bike. The paint work is in quite good condition

Any other advice would be greatly appreciated!

Just from my side: use 150, 300, 400, 800, 1000. 1200. 2000 grit wet sanding paper. Then very fine steelwool and silvo before the final polish with Autosol Metal Polish. Let the sanding paper soak in water for a while before you use it. and rinse regularly. Don't worry if you have to buy a whole tube of polish ect, when the bug has bitten, you're doomed. Looking out for my next one already

divernick. I currently have a thread on a CFX-10 rebuild I'd like to do for a dayly commuter. I can use some of those parts on that frame, or even use the frame for the build if it's closer to 54cm size than the current 58cm frame I have.

I'm still looking for ALL the components as I only have a frame with fork currently.

Are you looking to sell the frame or giving it away?

My 2 cents worth:

The SA Shi@mano agents refuse to bring in hood replacements and you can't get hoods easily unless you import off eBay. Some LBS may still have NOS, especially black Exage hoods although they don't fit 100% on the old 600, 105's.

Before you cut off the hoods, which are probably tacky, give them a good scrub with CleanGreen, Handy Andy, etc. Be careful to wash off all residue. Then take some talcing power (baby powder) and rub it on the hoods. They then get rid of the tackiness (for awhile).

I am busy with the rebuilt of my Bianchi Record 920. Attached some photos of the frame after prep for painting as well as my plan for the finished bike.

Hope to get the painted frame back early next week

I have to ask. How does a Peugeot CFX-10 frame compare to the Bianchis, Alans and Colnagos?

(Don't be too harsh please :P)

Thanks Loose Cog, but I know of that page, in fact, was double checking that my frame takes 700c wheels on that page this afternoon after a bike shop told me it takes old steel rims (which made me very unhappy).

The question is more, "is the peugeot frames comparable to the others mentioned in this thread", since I never saw any mention of the brand on over 174 pages.

I will put it this way. I would love having a rare Peugeot over many more well known brands.

Our market is small!

Post some pics of your baby.
