Hi, I need to replace jockey wheels on my road bike (shimano ultegra 10 speed).   I've tried 3 bike shops and no one has them (even the distributor is apparently out of stock).  There are a variety of cheaper alternatives (BBB etc.) but the top and bottom jockey's all appear to be exactly the same - whereas Shimano specifically have different "guide" and "tension" wheels.   Should I hold out and continue looking for the original product or are these other wheels just as good?

Get a nice set of blinged aluminium KCNC items...

I got myself a set of KCNC pulleys last week at Bowmans @ around R230. They had the XT ones for about R260. Aparently the latter is compatible with Dura ACe. I had been running my Dura ACe ones for about 18000km now before I replaced them. The KCNC ones work fine and look coolBig%20smile

The BBB ones are  not cheap - in the R300s, IIRC. Maybe 'cause they have "ceramic" ball bearings.

Ball bearing pulleys are not a good idea. The bearings easily become overwhelmed with the gunk thrown at it and the seals quicky become mere plastic washers that let water in.

The best pulleys are Shimano or Campag, with bushes. The fancy Shimano ones even has ceramic bushes for the followers of white glass bearings.

Few shops seem to stock the original ones, that is one of the reasons that the KCNC ones are so popular. That, and their bling factor.

I saw at Linden cycles yesterday they've got Shimano ones for R18 a set. What I did not see was if they were 5, 6,7,8,9 or 10 speed. Maybe the "0" on the pricing gun is not working.
