NinjaManiak Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 Hardtail = Cheaper/LighterSofttail = More comfortable
Aquatic Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 Plenty dedication to this topic in every forum.i wil just say from a budget point of view, you get much better spec on a hard tail than a d/s of the same value in most cases..

scotty Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 I'm getting a new mountain bike and I'm torn between soft tail and hard tail. Can anyone give me pro's and con's of each or just personal experience. e[/quote'] IMO Hardtail bikes are the best? if?You are riding smooth single track and need accurate responseYou need good climbing abilityYou want a lighter bikeYou want pedalling efficiency (and to conserve your own energy)If you are a XC racer who is after the biggest weight savingWant a bike that is easier to maintain and keep in good working orderAre a dirt jumper who wants better pump off of jumpsFull Suspension bikes are the best? if?You ride downhillGo off jumpsSuffer from saddle-assRide in rough terrainWant an all round bike with less limitationsWant a smoother ride on the trailWant a more comfortable bikeTechnically there is also a diffs between soft tail and dual suspension.

Eldron Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 Soft tail = old peeps Agreed! That Kevin Evans guy is a fogie My take on the soft tail / hard tail is. Are you a all speed and no confort kinda guy/girl? If YES - buy a hardtail. If NO - buy a softtail. The jury is still out on which is faster on a cross country course but I figure you can buy a much better hardtail for the same cash and that will make you faster that the equivalent (price wise) soft tail which will be heavier and have inferior components.
