I thought it was an enjoyable race, quite tough though. I think the marshalling was quite good. There were always marshalls at all of the road crossings trying their very best to stop the taxis from just driving straight through.

I saw two very bad crashes......one quite early on with the licensed riders.....guy rode into barrier and flipped over......hope he's ok, looked hectic.

And then much later on when we turned off the N14 with the sharp ben and the pavement in the middle, a lady that we had been riding with for quite a while rode straight into the pavement and fell over onto the other side....I hope she is ok too.

Road races are scary......way too many possible mishaps....the sand and bush for MTB are MUCH better.

I did a 3h10, was quite disappointed as I really wanted to do a sub 3. Oh well.....back to the drawing board.

Safety was fine for me....

The route was quite difficult...definately one of the hardest rides ive done so far!

Well done to Itec....very impressed.

I thought the rumble strips was the first water point....and it was so easy to just pick up a bottle and carry on!   smiley36.gif

Agree with the delay in timing results... WTF?

Rode my one and only Argus in 2005 (which has 20 000 or so more riders, and the results were up around 2pm the same afternoon...)

What happened to technology??? Come on Racetec, get it together...!

C'mon folks' date=' some of these "complaints" are just ridiculous. We can't honestly expect marshals or race organisers to sweep a race route to get rid of sand. glass etc. Get real.[/quote']

Next time you do the Carnival City race (if you do it), please say thank you to the organisers/marshalls who spend the whole of the Saturday (day before the race) checking the entire route (yes, all 103Km), and again on race day.

Potholes are filled, danger points marked, signage is erected up indicating the route (even though it's your responsibility to know the route), place a marshall at every insection who don't talk on a cell phone while they're on the job.

Are we doing more than is expected? I dunno, you tell me...

Frosty, it has been a few years since I last rode the Carnival city race, but the last time I done it I know you guys did a helluva job in sweeping the corners and filling the potholes.

The Carnval City is definitley on my list of to-do rides next year. Keep up the good work.

Agreed - the road markings at the Carnaval City is brilliant - missed that on yesterday's route as there's no ways of spotting the rumble strips beforehand and it was quite hairy.

When I came through there were no water left at the last 2 water points or at the finish Angry  I can't understand how you can run out of water yet have tons of powerade left at a waterpoint.

Well, FWIW (for what it's worth), if SA drivers didn't drive like cyclists ride (generally speaking of course) then they would have no need to have rumble strips to slow down cars, before intersections.

I agree that they are not nice and cycle friendly, but they serve another purpose.

It was not easy for the traffic officials and marshalls with that number of cyclists and the known impatience of the motorists, so from my perspective, hats off to all the race officials, traffic officials and marshalls. You did a sterling job.

The road works made the route less than 100% safe.

What did irritate me a bit was the slower cyclists did not keep well left and leave room for the speed demons to go past and I often had to infringe road safety by goingoutside of the demarkated "safe zone".

Perhaps race organisers can take ot of this and announce it at the start of each race. That way everyone should know to keep left and make space for all to use the road in safety.

I enjoyed the race and I will be back.

WHY ARE YOU STARTING BEHIND US SLOW FARTS IN THE FIRST PLACE, YOUR SEEDING SHOULD PUT YOU AHEAD OF US.

Mallo, many of the peeps in my bunch were fast.

I am still pretty much an unseasoned cyclist so have no seeding to speak of. I am trying to get that sorted so I can "race" the 94.7.

Yesterday time for Dome put paid to my delusions of a three hour 94.7 and I have been advised by my coach to up the ante.

I now have a 2hr 45 goal in mind.

Besides, I am also a pretty slow, old and crochety.

Mallo I think what is being referred to is that we caught up with the back end of the 40km race, which made things a little sporty at times. :)

Good luck with your goals for 94.7 hoping you achieve. What one did notice yesterday there was a huge turnout in the 40knm race and some awesome bikes as well for funriders.

My retro bike (Petini) with 9 speed taigra raised more than one or two eybrows.

It was classic to watch some of the faces as I rode by.

I think I need to speak to grey owl and see if I can ride his Eddie Mercx for the 94.7.

That will surely raise an eyebrow or several hundred.

Hey Mux. How did you feature in the race yesterday?

You must have creamed it with all the SBR training you do.
