Cyclists behaving ...... badly!!!!!!

Recommended Posts

These guys were wrong.Right is right and wrong is wrong. We are to be the foundation stones to be build on for our kids and younger cyclists. This way is a crumbling future.Mutual respect for each other. If you swear, your kids will swear. They hear it from you.If you ride this way, they will also do it this way.

Lets take responsibility and "safeguard"our privileges we have.

Actually that first picture is on a stretch of the N14 that is not a freeway' date=' I used to stay in Ruimsig and travelled the N14 in both directions on a regular basis. The second photo really isn't a calamity, although I'd hope that those okes had the decency to give way for overtaking traffic. Have to agree with cap'n slow's comment about taking photos whilst driving. Pretty darn stupid, in fact on the same level as the complaints leveled at cyclists. Mind you I find the whole argument of 'cylists' vs 'drivers' vs 'taxis' etc etc stupid, as it comes down to a mentality issue of road users in general.[/quote']

?

Danger Dassie, that section of the N14 is between the onramp at Mulderdrift and the robot at Hans Strydom where the N14 turn towards the west. The section where they are cycling is indeed an expressway where cyclists may cycle........ but their ride started where the N14 is still a highwyay. THAT is illegal.

Yet that isn't what the photo shows, is it? If they entered the N14 from where the Muldersdrift Hotel is, then it still isn't illegal.

I'd assume that's their entry point for the N14 as it is for most rides in the area?

It is obvious that you are very typical of the problem that makes cyclists unacceptable to the broad public.

You do not know the rules of the road yet you profess to drive there with a car.

Find out what the law says about riding on a Highway, find out what the definition is of a highway, find out what the definition is of an expressway and then come back to this debate.

The argument is not on what section of the road they did it,if they do it here they will do it everywhere.IS'NT THIS THE AGE OLD COMPLAINT.We are road abusers, and always want to blame others.Kindly note that it is not all of us.Embarrassed

I have a question (a genuine question - not definding the 'riding' of the cyclists in the pics) - I ride in the yellow lane, and my wife and I ride in single file unless the yellow line is wide, but can someone clarify whether it is actually illegal for cyclists to ride in the yellow lane?

I've heard it said that bicycles are classed as any other road vehicles (for the purposes of traffic laws) and therefore, as with other vehicles, it would be illegal to cycle in the yellow lane - is that correct?

Buddy, don't get smart.

Clearly this is no debate, if a person questions you or your motives you attack them and make personal remarks.

By your comment to Shaun (who does much for safe cycling) as well, it seems you have NO interest in creating a solution but to stir ***.

Grow up.

Oh my hat all this bitching. Who ever keeps to the speed limit, does not use a cell phone while driving or any other offence need not respond.

This last month I have done almost 1000km in and around Johannesburg, including Rivonia road and William Nicol. I ride in a safe polite and respectable manner. In a month other road users have come to know me and respect my right to use the road. When a taxi driver, security guard or executive on the way to golf, take a wide berth around me I wave politetly. The give a friendly hoot of aknowlegdement and then drive off.

So therefore be polite on the roads and you will reap what you sow. Be it as cyclist or motorist.

smiley4.gif Big-h you always start a discussion with the right message but after you first reply to anybody saying something different you throw your toys and go all dilly-willy . BTW I only share with other mtb'ers and the animals , there are no MX or Quads where I go .

Currently the laws are been changed to make it legal to ride inside the yellow line.

1. If 1 cyclist is inside the yellow line i.e. not on the road and the other abreast outside the yellow line on the road - I don't see why a motorist should have a problem! The cyclist inside the yellow line is currently illegal.

2. A cyclist has the same right as motorist on the road they both are classified as vehicle. My understanding is a vehicle may not overtake on a solid white line - so why is the motorist trying too? In Europe where we has taken these road rules from motorist would wait believe me!

Thanks Icycling - this is how our threads should be - an intelligent debate - and it highlights why I asked the question!

As the law stands, all of us that (sensibly) ride to the outside of the yellow line, are actually riding illegally! Therefore in the picture of the first post, all those to the right of the yelolow line are legal, and all those to the left of the yellow line are breaking the law! The problem is that drivers expect us to ride in the yellow lane!

(I'm not defending riding more than one abreast in such a situation - and the sensible thing to do would be for the cyclists to pull into the yellow lane to allow the car past)

One other question - how many people drive with a camera at the ready? Was the car driver specifically out looking for something to bitch about?
