And... at least he's not trying the famous Lance/Landis/Hamilton defense that the Spanish Guard has a vendetta against Italian and German Cyclists and planted the Blood in Dr Fuentes's lab, or that the search was unconstitutional, etc, etc, blah, blah ,blah, fish paste, fish paste!!!!

No come on Rock!!!

He only considered depositing Blood when he heard Jan deposited blood.

Not that either of them really wanted to dope' date=' but you know, just in case the other one actually doped, then they could both be on equal foot!!!!

You've all got it wrong - he thought he was donating blood in case his dog ever got sick, or was in an accident!  That's why his dog's name was on the bags.  Really, you people always assume the worst!!

I am still wondering why Valverde has managed to get away with much the same level of circumstantial evidence?  Is he above the scrutiny of the public and the UCI affiliates?

Agree with most of you though.  Basso's response to getting caught has been nothing short of a disgrace.  Rather hide yourself away and make no comment than continue to lie about what cannot be proven conclusively, and admit to what has already been determined.  One step better than LA who lies about the latter as well, but a cheat and a liar remains a cheat and a liar.

Good point about Valverde, and with him the blood in the bag is tainted with EPO, so if they actually manage to link him to the bag he has no excuses at all.

linnega, the UCI has been all but absent from taking action agains the riders.  Basso is testifying in front of an Italian Olympic committee.

Ulrich is being investigated by the Swiss Olympic committee as well as through a judicial fraud investigation.

The whole operation Puerto came to light through a Spanish police investigation.

Nowhere has any of the cycling federations, or the UCi taken a strong legal standpoint.  Lots of posturing and chestbeating, but no real committed to killing the cheating.

Looks like only a Spanish civil or Olympic investigation will sort Valverde out...

ASO is the guys that is prepared to make a stand!

They declared outright: No implicated riders will be allowed to start the Tour or ASO Races

The UCI wanted to take them to task for that.

Now they (UCI - McQuaid) are suddenly singing from the same podium, declaring "I am especially sad to learn that a talented rider like Basso has apparently partaken in illicit practices. However, I try to see this news in a more positive context. Our increased efforts, with our other cycling partners, to put riders under pressure appear to be paying off."

They never put pressure on anyone!!! ASO is the guys that put pressure on everyone!!!

I would like to know what happened with his meltdown in the 2005 Giro. Did his dope backfire?

Also, his room mates at CSC must have know what he was doing. Still, they said nothing. Is that because they are also doping, or what?

I think CSC and Tmobile also doing some damage control by anouncing their new anti dope procedures, DNA testing etc. They knew....

The quote of the week in my book is the one from Discovery "We are very surprised" - Hah - what a bunch of Yo-Yo's - they must think we ALL came down in the last shower.!!

Now that Basso's Giro crown is under threat and Guiterrez has all but fallen off the map (or is running for cover as I think he is next in line on Puerto), I would love to hear an interview with Simoni on these two points - Ill bet he dont mince his words.!!Clap

Hehe - Simoni will shoot from the hip. Hes not a nice person, but he entertains.

I'm not sure if they will take Basso's Giro away. They let Tyler keep his gold.

I would like to see a bit more on the Valverde camp. They have been very silent since a bit of news broke on cyclingnews.com about his alleged blood containing EPO.

Only because they destroyed the B sample. I think they could successfully get Basso disqualified if they wanted to.

What I wonder is how did Basso get to hear of Fuentes, who put them in contact?

Riis got a lot of credit from the cycling press for the way he revieved the stalled careers of Hamilton, Julich and Basso... Perhaps Mr 60% showed them some of his old tricks?

ClapClap well said christie! Its time the real culprits are brought to book!
