Hi all

I have just come across this site and I have had a great couple of hours reading the different topics on the forums.

I am from Australia and am here in Johannesburg for the next 5 months with work. Just before I left I purchased a Giant Trance X1 and I am missing my riding. I am actually from Canberra and there is some great riding around ? my local track just held the World Champs, so we are pretty spoilt in terms of trails.

The hotel I am staying at has a nice gym with a bike, but punching out the Kms on a exercise bike just isn?t the same. I am thinking about picking up a second hand XC hardtail that I can use while I am over here ? and then take it home with me and convert it to a bike I can ride to and from work ( maybe just change the tyres).

I have a couple of questions.

# are there any good bike shops around the Bedfordview area?

# are there any second hand bike shops around or am I better off watching the for sale fourm here?

# are there any good trails around the Bedfordview area? I have access to a car and willing to travel a distance ( if it?s safe, I don?t know my way around).

# are there any bike tours or anything that it?s worth me doing?

Any assistance would be appreciated!

Ok the first thing you need to do is change the Hotel you are staying at. Rather come stay at our hotel and you can join us for rides. We also have a bike store 10 Meters from the hotel entrance.

Otherwise get hold of Delgado, he likes Aussies and knows the Bedfordview area well. smiley4.gif

For second hand bikes check out www.bikebay.co.za  there's a bike shop in edenvale called johnsons cycles but when they sponsor a race they let you die of thirst so i don't endorse them. For riding and stuff contsct cyclelab or something, I'm sure they'll let you join them on some mountain bike rides till you learn where and where not to go. They're in the north (fourways area) though. Dunno too much about bedfordview riding sorry.

Johnsons cycles  is close by in Edenvale 011 453 9586 - Kim is the man there, family store and quite helpful. Otherwise there is franchise in Parkmeadows next to Eastgate, possibly better on prices but a bigger shop, less personal service

I used to ride over Linkfield ridge a lot until it got fenced off by residents (grrrr fact of life in Jouburg) as are most parks and enclaved suburbs but there are a few routes: haldf on-road / pavements.  But almost every weekend there is a ride of of town, do you have wheels?

Ok' date=' so I was joking. Sort of.

Actually dig Aussies when they not beating us at cricket or stealing our rugby players.
[/quote'] Everyone beats us at chokers cricket and we have enough rugby players so we can still export some.
