24 hour at Rietvlei

The Original event "Tenth Year Anniversarry in 2009" is moving to Rietvlei Zoo Farm due to (among others)

the following reasons:

1. The event has grown too large for Northern Farm

2. Better camping grounds and facilities

3. More exciting "real" MTB trails

4. More secure for cyclists

5. More controlled environment

?

This year dont miss the "Bicycling 24-Hour' date=' by Omni-Motion"
[/quote'] I don't recall any shower facilities at Rietvlei?

?

I'll go home, shower and not even miss a lap Big%20smile

Show Off!!!

The course is wicked and way more interesting than NF! When you go through BigBen's corner you'll all be thanking me :)

Some cool new sections and interesting riding the sections we know 'in the opposite direction to normal'!

***** edited for those from north of the boerewors curtain ******* Wink

Is there going to be a Beer Tent there on the BigBens corner. LOL

So I went to Rietvlei Zoo Farm on Saturday to ride the 24 hour route.<?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

My opinion:

There are not nearly enough places for overtaking other riders.
The slower riders are going to feel they are in the way of the faster ones.
The quicker guys are going to get upset with the slower riders and this will end up in fights?

The forestry single track is to twisty and not easy flowing at all. They better organize a lot of medics and ambulances as there is going to be a lot of falls and broken bones.
I also don?t think that the route would be able to accommodated large event numbers and there are a lot of sections where it will be congested most of the time.

The top pro guys might enjoy this route as a pure XC route but as a 24 hour mtb route I don?t think it is something that is going to work.

The majority of people participating in a 24 hour event are not going to be able to enjoy this course.
I can see a lot of riders that will after 3 laps be ready to give up and go home.

It?s hard and tough. But I have trained and I know that I am going to suffer. Luckily everyone rides the same route.

I thought the same about rider congestion when we did the Provincials here earlier in the year. It turned out not to be a problem. On 24 Hour events riders are not racing full out and will have enough time to let faster riders through.

We did 5 laps then and it was definitely hard, but the 24 hour route has been made easier.

I also rode the route this weekend and believe Dobby has raised some very good points. Some people will love the route, others will just be way out of their league.

I would suggest anyone wanting to ride the 24 hour go and ride the course before entering, it is NOT Northern Farm, it IS TOUGH and a lot more technical. markStockton2009-10-26 02:18:12

PLEASE - Do not think of the route you see at the moment as the final 24-Hour course. IT IS NOT.

We are a full months work away from the final 24 Hour course. Everything riders are saying is taken into consideration and changes are being made almost daily so that we can sculpt this into a good route.

Nothing has even been marked, prepared or decided on yet. Lets not comment on the cake before we eat it.

Oops, too late, already entered. LOL Did the Telkom MTB challange this weekend, This 24hr rout should be much easier than that or the Magalies Monster.

What does everyone want?? People complain if it's too easy and boring. Now it seems they aren't happy with it being a challenge. Make up your minds already.

Miles easier than the monster. My point was really for roadies and social riders.

picture this, i know the unofficial route and i have been giving feedback to the cycle hub to help out, today after hearing about the comments on this topic i decided to ride the route and find every possible overtaking spot possible, believe it or not there is plenty space to overtake and i rode atleast 3/4 of the route not on the racing line,

as was said earlier the guys are still working on the track and they working on it nearly every single day and every day there is a great improvement, i promise you that the official completed race route will be perfect and there will be sufficient passing space,

rome wasn't built in a day so nor will these trails be done in a day, it takes alot of man hours,

i ride at rietvlei 3 or 4 times a week and i know every trail there is in there and i can guarantee that it is not technical (besides one climb which might still have some work done) it is tough but not tough enough to have you pull out after 3 laps.

I disagree with your comment on "plenty of space to overtake" and then there will be half the field walking the little up hill coming out of the forest, causing congestion yet again.

I understand Rome was not built in a day, let's see how this one pans out.Summit Cycles2009-10-26 11:32:06
