I had just commented on this in the bad day in the cradle thread.

Not sure if its the same guy who rode in the A bunch?

No Trubie. This guy was in VA with me. There were a few other guys around me that also passed a remark about this guy that threw his sachet away.

Come on, post his name!

Apparently many riders in the VB bunch, particularly BOSS Logistics, riders feel they have the right to litter as well.

How about Pornstar sponsor some re-useable gell containers in the next telkom race pack, and problem solved??

PS. I used some of the Wasp gels this weekend and I loved them, The taste is better but they are expensive

I'm not one for "sighting" people for not wearing helmets and doing this and that etc but this I can not understand.... throwing sachets on the road...

These guys are prob the same people who throw their KFC/MC D takeway junk out of the car while driving or trowing empty cans out of the car..

Thank you for thinking you own the road. If its not your house/property no need to litter.

Don't know what they think - its a race, right - but you can't have people to clean a 100odd km stretch of road!

These riders are the ones that give cycling a bad name.

I was very upset on saterday.

there was a dimension data old fart with no number on in the A bunch. he disposed of his sachets in the field. i asked him why he does that? he then asked me: "who do you think you are?" i told him it does matter who i am he should not do that... He then sed that i should meet him him at the end. I was all for that... i was ready to give him a klap or 2 then take him to a CSA offical. Ouch  .... he wasn't there....  loser...

This gel throwing thing makes my blood boil. Saw quite a lot of it on Saturday. At the moment I am a bit ticked off with cyclists and their arrogant behaviour and lack of road manners. Think I need to get off the road for a while and back onto the MTB.

We were manning waterpoint 4! (foot of Hekpoot) I personally walked more than a km up the road to clean up! Come on roadies, if the Mountainbikers can learn to behave, so can we!

The pic below was taken after the first ladies 20091026_022809_m_TSC.jpgwent past us - you can just imagine what it looked like after 3000 more cyclists went past!

I also feel like this at the moment... think of going back to triathlon and MTB only...

Is it wrorg to through your water sachet back at the water point?

i feel there is people on duty their that can clean it up. just dont do it more than 500m away from the water point...

is this ok? or do i also need a klap? Ouch

Skaap I have helped to man water points before. In my opnion it's ok if the riders drop their empty sachets within 500m of the waterpoint. Afterall, it is the responsibility of the waterpoint staff to clean up their area.

It's the pigs that grab a handful, stuff them in their pockets and then throw them away 2km down the road.

If cleaning up 1Km down the road is such a problem, why do the people manning the water points keep offer sachets to the riders as they pass? Surely by forcing the riders to stop, get off their bikes and refuel, you'll be able to control the amount of litter at the water point.

Most of the faster bunches will have enough water in their 1 or 2 bottles, so they won't anything.

I agree with Frosty. I took a satchet because it was there (and cold). My waterbottles still had water in.  If riders are desperate for a drink, they would stop and refill or ask another rider for a drink if they don't want to pull over. Personally I think dropping the sachet in a 100m radius from the waterpoint (in a road race) is not a sin. Fester2009-10-26 03:11:22
