Is it worth buying the Tacx T1900 iMagic trainer? Want to use it as a "trainer" most of the time, but also do some courses here and there when i feel like it. Anybody that has a 2nd hand one to sell?

I use (and enjoy) Imagic all the time - Tour Flanders, Alp D'Huez etc

You will improve time trialling and steady state riding for sure!!!

Great training and SAFE from traffic but there is still something about the wind in your face that makes the road still the best.

It is a virtual reality trainer. One of the modes is as if you're inside a video game. The other is actual video footage of various routes. The third one is not graphical but you can program in resistance programs. The resistance is automatically adjusted by the computer according to the terrain.

You can save your daily workout and ride against yourself the next day or you can choose to ride against virtual opponents or even people across the internet. You can download different routes from the internet too. All the training is saved into graphs so you can compare your workouts. It is hard to try and explain. Best is to go to a shop or buddy who has one and give it a try.

Sounds like a great piece of equipment!

I bought a normal indoor trainer about 3 years ago, thinking it will be great to use during our wet season in cape town.

Used it about 5 times during the first winter probably because it was a new toy. Thereafter it has been standing around gathering dust.

Bought proper rain gear, built up a training bike so I dont have to feel sorry for my real bike and now nothing beats the real thing! So be aware of this trap...

Rain is not a real issue for us Gautengers...well not for me anyway. My big issue is not enough daylight hours. I use my IDT during the week as it is not safe for me to ride alone at night. (I'm a mtb'er).

so R6000 is worth it ?

For me it is as I have to do IDT sessions. I don't think it is worth it for everyone though. I have tried regular IDTs and get bored too easily.

What software does the iMagic ship with? I am under the impression that you need the Fortius software to do the real life video rides, and that is an optional extra not included with the iMagic.

OK, thanks. So the only difference between iMagic and Fortius is the bigger brake motor? All software the same, including Catalyst?

Yeah the brake motor - i-magic is only accurate to say 5-6% gradient and the fortius does 12% or more. This is ok as u just stick it in a bigger gear if you want a hernia.

the fortius also feeds back your power so the downhill freewheelin is more realistic. on the i-magic you can be on a 45 degree slope but if you stop turning the cranks the bike will stop on the screen.
