What happens to road cyclists when they grow up and get some sense? They become mountain bikers!forum_images/post_button_smiley.gif [/quote']

I'll be the first to say that I know very little about road racing and the ettiquette that goes with it - but did someone else notice this during the Team Barloworld(?) clip on Supercycling last night?:

Don't even know if it was them - or where the clip was shown (might even have been during the clip advertising the new Suunto range or the new SA Pro-league), but the specific part involved a team of riders, in RED, ahead of a pace vehicle (one of those big Mercedes(?) mini-busses) along a very busy road without any shoulders...

The riders were cruising along, but you could see a very long train of cars stuck behind the pace-van. The camera was in a car in front of the riders looking back at the whole bunch. The clip was only on for a couple of seconds, but during that time, you could clearly see a very impatient taxi veering out into the oncoming traffic in an attempt to pass, before having to shoot very smartly back behind the pace-van, probably because of oncoming traffic....

I know that roads etc are limited... But I'm with Kritzinger here, if I were trying to get home, or was late for an appointment, and was being held up behind 10 cars because of some team who chose their training route along a busy road with absolutely no possibility of over-taking - I would blow my top....

That kinda stuff really grinds my !@$% - because, no matter which way you spin it - it's simply being inconsiderate and selfish towards all the other users on the road...

The way I feel is that the cyclist must not just expect people to watch out for them but the cyclists must first have respect for the motorists and maybe then will they get respect from the motorists. I myself get damn pissed off when there are riding 3 cyclists next to each other and shouting at motorists when they hoot.

Rod I did notice this, in principle you are right, only problem I had with this was the Taxi was attempting to pass the team vehicle on an incline with a SOLID white line.

I didn't notice that Mux! Agreed, driving like that is looking for trouble...

However, whilst what I'm about to say is not suggesting for a moment that all cyclists bring out the worst in drivers (taxi-drivers do that all by themselves Angry), and I'm not in any way excusing someone who drives in that manner - but it's about time that cyclists take responsibility for their actions... If they are slowing up 10/15 cars, who might have been stuck behind them for the last 1/2/3/5 km's, crawling along [for a car that is] at 40km/h - is it any wonder that drivers might become SO frustrated that they start attempting overtaking on a solid white line, up a hill...

I'm not saying that was the case in yesterday's clip - but road rage is a fact of life - and if [in yesterday's example] that taxi tried to go for the gap, and caused a head-on collision because of him trying it on a solid white line, up a hill - are the cyclists then completely innocent because the taxi (alone[?]) broke the law?? Sorry - if (IF!!) frustration at being caught behind a training group caused that accident, then forget all other considerations, but I feel that the cyclists are equally to blame...

Comes back to being considerate to other users of the road!
