Eish !! What happened with the parking arrangements on the Allandale turn off side ! We felt like we where on a mountain bike trail !!! Lots of "not so happy" people ! Most missed the starts by 30 to 40 min ! Anyone know who the "genious" was ?

The rest of the race was great !! Water holes and manning personal where brillint !!! Just "Blerry" hot !!! Thx all !

I agree, that was a long walk, had to carry 2 bikes to the start, i was coverd in sweat when i got to some tar were we could ride. Hope it is better next year. I just wish the orginisers would tell that in advance so we can plan to walk forever.

I thought we were doing the 94.7 cycle challenge, but it felt like the 702 walk the talk.Confused

We arrived thankfully with loads of time to spare.  By the time we had breakfast and got everything ready we joined to queue to get over that bridge - it was going no where fast (sort of like bad peak hour traffic).  We were informed by an official of a detour - it was long but we got to the start in plenty of time (took us about an hour to get to the start).

My biggest gripe - what happened to the supposed toilets in the designated parking areas.  Definitely none on that side that I could see unless it was the local bush / tree.

So you mean it was like a regular day riding in the Cradle then?

LOLLOLLOLLOL something like that.....

When I eventually found the toilets on the other side, I think I was the happiest girl on the planet.

yup. Luckily I parked my car with an hour and 10 minutes to spare. The 4.5km walk to tar took about 50 minutes... Very glad I had my MTB shoes on. However, those shoes definitely ain't made for walking. Then had to push and compete to get to the front of my start group UU. Got there JUST in time.

No toilets in parking area

Bridge was uncrossable.....with no rails to hang on while you slide with your cleats down the wet, slippery slope.  I am not even STARTING about getting a pram over that........we had 5 ladies crossing having to ask the men to carry the pram over the bridge........

PATHETIC to say the least!!!!!  They made 9.5 mil rand just out of entries.....Take a 1ooo bucks and put decent wood planks over it dammit!

I arrived early and got to the start with plently of time to spare, I think somewhere in the pre-race instructions it said allow 1 hour to get from car park to start. Car parking is always going to be a problem for an event this size. Hopefully next year at the Allandale parking there will be more tar and a proper bridge but when they start putting houses up who know what will happen. blanc2009-11-16 04:28:58

I always park on the otherside of Woodmead / M1 at a garage there, bit of trek back and forth but no congestion at all.  I also leave it a bit late to join the groups, coming from the start side you just join ur group as it comes up.

Only problem is there is one more hill to do after the close of business :o

Agree the bridge congestion was pathetic. I saw a number of people taking their shoes off to cross through the river next to the bridge. (Mmmm the jukskei can surely not have the cleanest water to cross...) I managed to get to my starting group dripping in sweat just before the gun, but hell first time I crossed the starting line already in my heart rate zone!! :)

Had no troubles getting to/from parking inside World of Golf. First time I saw traffic(cars OR bicycles) was when I cycled along Maxwell to get to the start. Was not bad at all. Spent an hour in the Momentum tent after I finished, and felt like racing up the hill back to World of Golf. There was VERY little traffic when I left at about 16:30. Great day out in the sun!!!

I crossed that bridge during the MTB race - like a sheep I followed everyone in front of me, going the wrong way. At the time I thought it was quite unique, but then realised the mistake when everyone was riding in circles on the other side.
