For Morewood riders out there:

Buddy of mine has just switched from a 2008 S Works onto a Zula, but is struggling with the rear shock setup.

His Spesh was dialed in to almost a hard tail because he likes to stand out of the saddle on climbs and crank hard. The problem on the Morewood is that the back end bobs, no matter what setting he tries on the Fox shock. We have played around with pressure and fiddled all the settings.

Anyone else have this problem and how did you get around it, or is it just a case of adapting to a new riding style ?

Well when he is in propedal mode, the setting must be on number three, that is the firmest. (I supose you know that) Then if you still want it harder the only thing you can do is to pump the shock harder. But you will never get the shock to lock out completely, it is not designed to.

Zula is the best ride I ever had!!

I have had a few guys coming off hardtails wanting a "firmer" rear end. With all of the new Fox RP23 rear shocks featuring the "boost-valve" tech the platform is certainly less noticeable than it was previously. We are working closely with Fox on some valving for the upcoming months, but in the mean-time I have two suggestions for your mate:

  1. If he wants and on/ off style lockout he should consider the RL/ RP2 shock.
  2. If he wants to stick with the RP23, enquire with your LBS about sending it in to the agents to have the pressure increased in the boost-valve as well as the compression tune increased to the firmest.

Sounds like he should have bought a Scott with twin loc or something. A mono pivot like a Zula actually needs minimal intervention from the rear shock - the pivot placement tends to stiffen the rear suspension when cranking up hills in low gears and bobbing is actually less than you find on VPP and some linkage bikes which Fox's Propedal and so on assist in reducing.

Your buddy should consdier the traction benefits he's losing out on by running a hard rear end and maybe just amend his ridng style a bit?

Can one order a Zula frame with the RP2 and if so, would there be a price difference?

I have the RP23 on my Anthem at the moment and would prefer it being a bit stiffer.  My wife's Anthem has the RP2 and I like the stiffness of that.

Its funny because its a discussion we have had recently as we are currently testing and speccing product for 2011. The issue is simple: the RP2 is an entry-level product and althugh the build quality is top notch the assisciation isn't. The Morewood brand, and Zula frame are both premium products, and as such we have and will continue to spec the top-of-the-line shock available from Fox. That being said, I know there is demand for a shock with a complete lock-out and I will make a plan to accomodate this as best I can by bringing a handful in and allowing custoemrs to change to the RP2 should they wish to. This is something I am working on and will get in the pipeline. OEM orders from Fox take about 4 months from part number creation through to receipt pf product so its a lengthly process.

If you are wanting/ needing something immediately refer to my previous email and I am sure you will come right locally ;)
