The disadvantages of having a power meter

Bruce - Please give some more detail on the meaning of L4' date=' L5, L6 - thanks[/quote']

L4 = steady state threshold power i.e. power sutainable for 60 minutes

L5 = power at VO2Max and is your upper aerobic limit, sustainable for around 4 to 8 minutes

L6 = anaerobic power - sustainable for around 1 minute.

This is theory of course....not so sure how this would work for me in practice Wink

Not theory at all.  Every person has a maximum sustainable power for 60 minutes, 5 minutes and 1 minute.  Ride as hard as you can for each of those durations and you have your L4, L5, L6 levels.  For each person the ratio's between these levels will be a bit different, which is why there are sprinters, hill climbers, time-trial riders etc.

I want have to do some training on the IDT tonight if the rain is going to carry on... So I noticed the other day I can't sustain the same levels of Power on the IDT, is there a % I can subtract from my normal levels to get IDT levels?? Thx!<?:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Marius: Do a FTP test on the indoor trainer as well...

Alternatively, subtract 15% Wink

15% sounds like the easy way out for meTongue I don't want to kill myself doing a FTP test after a week of no cyclingConfused thx for the advice!

I'm planning on doing another FTP test on the indoor trainer at the beginning of July... I'm hoping the result is higher this time around Big%20smile

marius - have you actually ever tried your L4 2x20's on the idt?  or the 6min L5's for that matter?  both using your road FTP?

bruce is of the opinion that it is a mental thing,  but somehow i disagree!

No, I have not, I find doing them on the Road to be painfull enough for me, can't imagen doing them at the same Levels on the IDT, that's just crazy...think Bruce might be smoking somethingWink
