I have used bothe Eggbeaters and Candy's. I find the Candy's by far the best, I have very broad feet and find the wide platform of the Candys very comfy. Crank Bro pedals also have an awesome mud clearing design.

This is going to start a quasi-religious flame war.

I really like Look Keos for road.

For off road I use Shimano SPDs. I know a lot of people who use

them on the road and off. You can get them cheap and if you

put them on all your bikes you can save on shoes...

They aren't as good as Eggbeaters, but they have worked in mud

at the Sani Transfrontier and the Sabie Experience without any issues

for me...

I have KEO's and love them.  HOWEVER, if you want pedals that last longer than a year rather get something durable like Shimano.  I have gone through three pairs of Keo's because the contact area between shoe and cleat gets word down easily.  Hopefully the new Keo 2's solve this problem, but I am a biot disappointed with the wear at this moment.

Maybe you spend a lot less time riding than me!Wink

The problem is the wear on the pedal, not the cleat!

Tongue !

I have ridden the ones on my training bike for about 16000kms and

they are a little worn, but nothing unusual.

Do you line your cleats with sandpaper?

For road I use the Time RXS Carbon and offroad I use Shimano.

If I remember correctly I think I remember reading about a recall on the Keo's.

Yeah there was a recall on ones for an axle problem if they were

manufactured before 2005 (I think)...

Time RXS are fantastic. And the new i-Clic by Time also look really nice but have not tried them yet.

MTB - I use Shimano as well, but don't rate the mud clearance as being exceptional. Have been thinking about changing, possibly also to Time Atac's.

Nope, just a normal carbon sole.  Maye they don't work with Specialized?!  It might also have something to do with the play and wearing my cleats too long when they are a bit worn.  Nonetheless, if it had a metal contact area it wouldn't happen!  PLus, being on the heavy sie doesn't hel my cause at all!
