Safety- Is it safe to ride alone at Northern Farm

I mostly ride alone at places like teak but I am looking to spice it up a bit and try Northern Farms or anywhere else that you guys can recomend in that area.

Is it safe to ride alone at Northern Farms? I ride in the mornings on weekends.

Anyone heard about people being robbed at Northern Farms or Teak?

Teak and NF are as safe as houses, there was mention of one incident outside of NF but that was about it.

Been riding both on my own, especially NF for the last few years without any problems at all.

In South Africa, that may not mean what it should :-)

If you're going to ride alone, at least carry a cellphone with you.

inside NF in the mornings should be quite safe because there are lots of people especially if you stick to the busy routes.  Some poeple exit NF at a point and take a loop outside but me and my friend nearly had our bikes taken recently so we rather stick around inside the farm.  Always carry pepper spray for what its worth...

shoo looks like a mixed bag on this one.

I can say that I have not had any issues at Teak. I am a bit concerned re the falling and have no one to help I do ride with my cellphone so that is some consolation.

Are there any hubbers who go for regular 30-60km rides at these places?

What about club 100 is it worth joining them?

It's relative to where in 'South Africa' Wink

Agree on the cellphone, always a good idea.

Safe is a relative term.

Northern Farm is safe. If you go there on your own especially in the mornings you will hardly be alone! Best bet is to go and discover it for yourself. 40km no problem.

Also its only open on weekends and public holidays. If you get there tomorrow morning around 8am you will be in the company of plenty likeminded Mtbers

Yip, I think it is (relatively safe) safe. Have done it a couple of times by myself. Going there tomorrow morning with the missus. Easiest way to do 40 if you are a Northerns Noobsie is to do 2 laps of 20 kays. PM me your e-mail address and I'll mail you a scanned copy of the official NF map, alternatively contact Mampara (I think, or maybe it was Mandibles) - he planned on doing a revised map of the Farm. Not sure if he has completed it yet.
