Tendonitis is an over-use injury, sorry to say!

The longterm effects of training/icing is just no full recovery, which can lead to a more chronic problem/later even bad arhritis.

The long term effects of the chronic use of anti-inlamatories/NSIADs esp when training hard can be really dangerous( may cause renal impiarment, peptic ulcer etc.)

Let me explain: Due to over use the tendon gets"irritated" and inflamed. This leeds to swelling of the tendon which in turn leeds to the discomfort and pain.

Icing/anti-inflamatories helps to decrease the amount of inflamation and swelling of the tendon(BUT only temporary.......). Then you exercise again and the whole circle starts again!

I am very sorry but the onlu real treatment is rest and rehabilitation.

Feel for you....All of the best

My son had it the other day;

We fixed it in 3 days as it was a new injury

Your setup is wrong - move saddle (usually up);

Move saddle to back or forward horizontally;must be correctly meassured

look at cleats move forward/back

stem not to long - to far forward?

Rest a few days;

Stretch; stretch stretch

Ice knee many times a day and after pain or every ride;

ride very easy gears for quite some time

stretch stretch for the rest of your life

that got him right quickly

Terminator, how is your knee?

i just want to say that my knees are feeling awesome (read normal)

the only change is the suppliments that i mentioned,

I tried ArthroGuard on its own years back and did not get the same relief,

i believe that stacking it with the joint select stuff is giving me the ratio of whatever that i need.

Gravity, I haven't taken any supplements, but have made use of the xmas / new year season, and have been off my bike for 10 days! I've also re-looked at my set-up, and will back on the bike tomorrow morning for a light ride / test. Hopefully good news from there!

I am struggling with a hamstring tendon at the moment. I did a hard TT with the cleat not set properly but I thought its okay I will fix it after the ride. Big mistake,  I overworked the tendon and muscle in a way it was not used to operate.

I went for a Thai massage and told the lady about my problem. That seemed to have helped a great deal as she put some Thai muti on it and applied impressive kung foo massage techniques. Aside from that I have just been taking it easy on the bike. It is still paining but feels a lot better.

I have started Jogging again now, and my knee feels really really good on the bike, i think i am on to something here, i am going to stack them together in a bottle and relabel - i will also claim that it sorts out erectile dysfunction to aid marketing.

Good to hear Gravity.

After being off my bike for 10 days and my new setup - saddle slightly further back, nose up a tad and about 5mm higher, my knee is feeling much better on the bike, and fine afterwards as well. I'm still icing regularly, more as a precaution.

I went to a chiropractor yesterday, and that seems to have eased things too, although she did say I will not see real results until after 3 treatments, which will be by mid next week. I did ask if the sensitive areas she found in my back (knee related areas) were tender because of my knee, or my knee was playing up because of my back, but she could not say. I guess only time will tell. So we'll see, but so far so good, and training goes on.

I have tried the stretching regimen mentioned in this thread for a knee that has been niggling and have felt an improvement. Knee almost back to normal. Lots of quad stretches has worked for me.

Agreed Happy Martin. I forgot to mention that the quad stretch provides relief when I do feel a niggle. I still can feel a bit of a niggle when out of the saddle, but if I do a quick quad stretch once seated again, the relief is there.

Sorry to bang on about the stretch thing but I read recently about a potential problem with stretching the quads.

I have always stretched by holding my left ankle with my left hand and pushing the pelvis and leg forward, if you know what I mean. Anyway I read that this puts too much stress on the knee and it is safer to rather stretch by holding the left ankle with the right hand. This puts a little diagonal element to the stress on the knee and that is apparently safer
