We have some of the best Sports Physicians' date=' Physio's, Bio's and Exercise Scientists in the world, yet riders still choose to dope, rather than follow the the legal ulternative.

Bwahaha...thats funny. Who do you think gives them the dope? Gary the tooth fairy?

What we need to do criminalised doping like they have in France (I think it is). That will be more of a deterent. At the moment it is take the risk, get a two year ban and then compete again. If there were harsher penalties then it may help. Every team should commit to an Anti-Doping Program like Medscheme and Saxo Bank.

Perhaps a 6month- 2 year ban is too light. But I think it's far from a "slap on the wrist"

How many people can go for that period without work? Especially in South Africa being a professional cyclist.

Still by targeting the athlete alone we are never going to get to the route of the problem or even combat doping effectively.

Ek ken vir NOLAN goed ' date='hy bly n baie nice persoon en is een van die vriendelikste ouens in die peliton. sterkte jakkes hou net moed, ek hoop net nie jy lees al die *** wat die mense skryf nie.

[/quote'] It's a misconception that drugs are taken by evil, calculating people.  Taking drugs is an act ofweakness, not strength! If you get it then you get why nice people drug too...

Dead right doping is the same as cheating (except with doping there are potential health risks), most people have cheated at something at some stage in their lives and will often laugh about it later.

The difference tho is dopers rarely admit it....not untill they get caught which imo does not equate to admitting it.

My heart leaks custard for these okes dopes like NH, if he did not get caught he would have happily kept it secret while claiming whatever recognition / sucsess came his way.

Yes it's tuff when one of these dopes is your friend, just remember he was decieving / cheating you as well, probably with a big smile on his face.

Bittter n twisted Wink

Astana - i've also heard that SA is one of the easiest countries in the world to get dope.

One of the reasons why so many overseas teams "train" here. And not just cycling' date=' but swimming, running, tennis, the works...[/quote']

Yep, not a hear say thing - I can tell you this with certainty. Just pop into Coetzenburg, Stellenbosch over the December holiday and now during January - lot and lots or Athletes training here - personal coaches and team doctors the works.

Sure its the same in Cape town.

Its way easier to "fine tune" the engine over here and head back with a fully serviced engine to compete against the best in the world.

Drug is everywhere and anywhere - not talking party drugs.

Hmmm..... interesting view??? you don't think it could also have something to do with weather at this time of year in the cape (as opposed to northern hemisphere)? Exchange rate = cheap destination compared with dry regions of the Med?? good training routes??

LOL Obviously. Should I first have stated all the obvious reasons so you didin't have to go through the trouble of stating LOGIC. Were talking drugs etc. Just giving my 2c and a bit of background and inside info on this issue. But thanx bud WinkBig%20smile

.........

Whether or not he will get another pro team ride is another story...[/quote

Why not? its his first offence' date= he's young, plenty of other pros have been caught and have got other rides... also he is VERY fast and will almost certainly whoever employs him many wins.

I'm sure drugs are also easily available in southern and south america, asia and the rest of africa.

The main reason that atheletes train here are: Southern hemisphere summer, temperate climate, first world facilities, english speaking, same time zone as europe, etc etc..

NO!!!!!!!!!!!! Shocked your kidding right Confused LOL

lefty - not sure where you've been' date=' but neotel have NOT left the cycling arena. They have merely killed off their pro-team. They still have a big commitment to cycling SA and are doing GREAT things for cycling

It looks like you're blaming everyone and everything except nolan?

He made a **** move and admitted in a written letter that he cheated.

He understands the consequences of his actions, and is waiting for CSA hearing.

The story is that his ban will be 6months - 1year, depending on whether or not he squeals on his suppliers.

No dude I;m not blaming everyone and everything.

I'm suggesting that everyone shoudl stop blaming Nolan for everything thats transpired.

the Pro team did not fold because he doped. IS cycling such a shaky marketing platform that one transgression leads to the culling of around 10 Jobs?

Theres more to this than just doping.

Yes he made a mistake (**** move as you call it) and he will pay for it.

And that where it should end.

Why the continued vitriole? Let it rest

Its human nature to drive people into the ground then they are cuaght and it goes public. Look at the nazi's , Apartheid , Tiger woods - never mind low long ago it is and how people are punished some people just cant get enough.

I don't see how nolan can go riding again in Paarl / Franchhoek - his locals will either stone him to death or they will think its been a setup and shift the blame to another party
