Obvisouly we have a few bad apples inside the cycling community who caused these problems in the first place. They however are now dead and the rest of the good guys have to deal with the issues.

I must comment the cradle is not the only place where this is happening. Not sooner not later all of us will face these problems in all areas.

FEW bad apples, you say.

I was stopped at a (red) traffic light on sunday morning early in Midrand, sipping on my water bottle and trying to catch my breath after a long uphill climb.

A group of club cyclists came up from behind, slowed and then proceeded to ignore the red light and just ride straight through the intersection.

When I caught up to them and gave them a piece of my mind about cyclists that ignore basic road rules and give us all a bad name, I was summarily told to f*ck off and threatened (the standard behaviour, it would now appear, for  a large number of cyclists who own pro level bicycles and think that that somehow entitles them to act like neanderthals)

Not TWO traffic lights later, ANOTHER group of slowly cruising, one race a year fifty plus ladies did exactly the same thing, but in this instance, because they have only recently started cycling, do not have the appropriate bike skills to stand and pedal, therefore careening wildly when starting up a pace again, because they are in the incorrect gear and have not the power to drive that gear at low cadence, causing motorists and cyclist alike to have to swerve into oncoming traffic to avoid them!

We have heard and seen these actions (and a lot of cyclists partake in them) ad nauseum.

Maybe its a symptom of the lawless society in which we live, kind of monkey see monkey do (the taxi'x do it, so I can too"...")

Few people respect one another anymore and its become very much a ME ME ME world.

If the law enforcement entities in this country, especially in Gauteng, could hardly be bothered with child prostitution in Arcadia in Pretoria, or the disappearance of children in Hillbrow, why should they care about cyclists getting pushed off the road or residents/motorists rights being infringed.

I suppose a lot of you read the post of the idiot that kicked the car door in of a motorist, after incident recently. Now who gets the blame there? The unobservant motorist, or the maniac cyclist.

The problem is and WILL ALWAYS BE : not who is in the right and who is wrong, BUT who can and should give more consideration to other people and respect others, their property, their neighbourhoods, their chosen pastimes etc.

STOP PLACING BLAME ANd MAKE THE DIFFERENCE!!!

"If its to be, its up to me".

This sh*t has really made me reconsider if I want to be a cyclist anymore, because I certainly dont want to be branded with the same iron as some real schmucks out there, and I also dont want to have to look over my shoulder all the time worrying about the motorists who have it in for me because of those d*ckhead cyclists!!!

HERE ENDETH THE LESSON!

Rant and Rave, all deception, egos, lies, one-sided stories - But how about the 'Truth'.

I have been requested to lay-off the cyclists, WHY?

The facts:

Mark Thijs posted this topic.

- A one sided story has been posted by him,

- He was part of a rumor campaign about Cradle residents planning a blockade,

- He initiated a lawyer?s letter, and rolled it out to apply to all Cradle residents,

- He names Residents from our area by name and by business and implicates them in this one sided story

- He exaggerates,

- Makes no attempt to resolves issues, only adds fuel to the fire

- Apologises that he won?t make proposed meetings,

- Watches from the side line, will not intervene to keep the process civil, decent and propagate common respect.

- Will not discipline his cronies, when totally out of hand.

Mark, Bruce, Andrew and Gang, are you proud of yourselves when referring to the Cradle residents as:

Wankers

prick

Skietepiete

childish

asshole

primitive

baboons

idiots

vigilantes

stupid

fascists

culprits

killers

murderers

****

fools

cowards

Pluss

Tossers

Obsessive- compulsive, and using phrases like

Slap Ken

Reemed by Bubba

AK47 up your ring

Glock in your face

see you in jail, whilst you threaten to

Boycott businesses.

From the onset, I and other cradle residents requested Decency and Respect. This fell on deaf ears. So we gave you and your cronies just a little bit of the same treatment, now you call for the thread to be ended, request us to give it up, close the topic, deactivate our account etc. WHY? For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. What ever you got from 1 Cradle Resident, me Mr Ples, you obviously can not handle. Any comments posted by me were in response to some pathetic cyclist?s opinion ? DON?T FORGET YOU STARTED ? PERIOD.

The Cradle Residents wish to engage with the responsible Cyclists, who wish to resolve issues in a constructive manner. Our tolerance is running out!

Residents in the Cradle have been assaulted, insulted, generally speaking you crap in our bush, litter the area, pee on the road side, use in appropiate sign language, ride more than 3 abreast, break the rules of the road and admit it. My personal feeling is you and others are suffering from a ?guilt conscience? and posted this topic as a diversion tactic. You have entered the Cradle Area, violated it, then I launch a little missile and I get requested by personal emails and calls to stop the onslaught. ? DON?T FORGET YOU STARTED ? PERIOD.

To Cradle Residents: Postpone this meeting, lets get all the Residents Associations, Conservancy, Estates, Farmers Unions, Business, CPF?s, FPA?s, Disaster Management, Conserv, other interested and affected parties from the COHWHS and surrounds together. We exhibit the facts and the figures as above, previous minute, and elect reps. We then engage with Government and it?s agencies, and when ready we meet with reps from Organised Cycling.

To Responsible Cyclists and Organised Cyclist Groups: Lets see as a staring point, your commitment to the process by disciplining these renegades on this forum.

Mark THIJS, irrespective of the incident, that is between you and the other road user, you choose to bring it to this forum and remember - YOU STARTED ? PERIOD.

Yours Truly

Trevor

I've been a cyclist for 12 years now. I know we are not angels. This weekend while on my way to the movies I watched a group of cyclists enter the town from the N1. They were a group of about 15 riders, all wearing the same "trap vir bybels" kit. They had now respect for any road rules. When they reached the first red traffic light they all went over without even trying to stop. All the cars that were supposed to go had to sit and wait for them to pass. While I sat in my car I could see one of the guys that had to wait for them to pass sit and swear in his car. Then we wonder why motorists get upset..

I agree with you. I think both parties are guilty in this instance. I'm also a MTBer and have seen the way road cyclist behave on all roads. So the cause of accidents is can't be solely blamed on the road users.

This is a clash of attitudes. I saw a Letter in the BEELD on the 15 of January where a reader complained yet again about ROAD-cyclist behaving badly. So cyclist as a whole have only themselves to blame for the negative treatment we are getting on our roads. I think it is up to us to clean up our image and show the other road users how responsable we are.

I'm also just watching, and it was also said Mountain bikers is still welcome. Jipee, I can still go and ride as soon as the Doctor gives the Go Ahead again.
