........ Brackenfell and Kraaifontein interestingly were spit spot clean.

I have also noticed that as I decend into the belville / brakenfell area the roads have far less glass than the others.

I dont think that there is much more maintance on these roads as there is still sand, leaves etc. But I think it says alot about the people that stay in the area. (They obviously are decent enough to not chuck things out the window)

As far as I knew, riding without a helmet is not against the law. May be irresponsible but not against the law. Am i mistaken?

If only you could fine people for stupidity!

I think Andrew Borraine of the CT Partnership has a lot to do with moving the CT Metro to a more bike-friendly city (also he has ZIP to do with the DA). I did my 1st Argus with him and his bro in law!

Perhaps though they need more active participation from cyclists in terms of planning and whats to spend budgets on so not as to waste, if that is not happening already?

If I can add my 2 cents, roads which capetown should be proud of like Victoria road campsbay to llandudno Is also littered with broken bottles. and Did anyone else see the huge pile of broken bottles on the side of the Cape Cobra route over the weekend?

I blame People drinking in the public parking areas and viewpoints on the way to Houtbay, I have never seen a patrol Vehicle checking out the parties going on on the side of the road. I think this Is largely the glass problem.

Some good points Woofie

I can not understand how people can chuck rubbish out of a car?  Can they not wait that long before getting to a bin!  The effects of rubbish on the environment is detrimental.

Anyone caught doing this should be given a hefty fine ... like R2000 plus 15 hours community service .... picking up rubbish next to the highway wearing a bright orange suit!

In the State of California, USA, the fine for littering out of a car window is $1000-00 with 30hr of community service thrown in.

that means you get to ride in a trash collection truck for a few weekends.....lovely.

Should implement that here.

Now stompie throwers, you know the &*$#ehads who throws cigarettes buts out of their movin cars, they should be fined R15,000 and 30hrs community service.

I'vetrid reporting that to the cops and the paperwork is a mile long and the onus is on the observer to prove that the event happened.

So now what, do I drive around with a video camera?

Brundson, Lets start with the most popluar cycle routes.

Main rd from Southern Suburbs around the Peninsula.

Coast Rd from Gordons Bay to RooiEls

R102 Voortrekker rod from Kuilsriver to Strand

maybe the Stellenbosch booitjies can throw in their roads too (Not sure if Stellies is under City of CT or Provincial)

The regulation orders the compulsory wearing of a protective helmet that

is properly fastened and fitted while riding a bicycle or being carried

as a passenger.

Will update this thread tonight with the emails that I've been CC'd on. Seems politics is a different game and like a forum, the conversation is getting derailed.

Some nice info that I will not only share on this thread but also the Argus one. Seems most Cape Town officials assume cyclists only do the Argus LOL
