you araise a goodpoint Dave. Excellent point in fact.

How many shops actually tell their customers how often the fork or rear shock needs attention? IME, not many. its like keeping mum about this is a selling point of sorts.

Worn shock absorbers on your car is dangerous. Worn parts in your bikes suspension, especially the fork is also dangerous.

try and keepo track of yor hours on the mtb through your training softwareif you use any. you can set up alarms in most software to let youknow that you have reached certain targets. Fork Service is just one such alarm / flag you could have the software raise.

happy riding

ya no worries bru,

don;lt take it personally, I just had to let off steam after seeing a few more forks with similar damage over the Wiesenhof weekend. One bloke was so proud of his fork that it didnl;t need a service after 2 yrs. When  I pointed out the stanchion wear h flipped his li at how crap the product was and he was going to sell it immediately to get a better design..

Every 2nd Fox fork I see has this problem, the one that I did yesterday was so bad there was no oil in the left leg, and the oil in the right leg was not of this earth! Boils down to maintainence, I've also had a reba that I had to take a hammer to to seperate the lowers from the stanchions, Phoned the cuzzi, told him the problem, freaked out, then still complained when the fork wasn't buttery smooth after a service...

Then the other end of the scale one cuzzi complained that his fork was too bouncy after a service, cuz it was working properly again...

Hi JB

I wasn't saying the seal popped, if you look at the picture of the worn stantion, you can clearly see the straight line pattern from the recess in the bush. As you know there are recess grooves in the bushes to allow the oil to flow around. The wear pattern is clear on the stantion. I just think its picking up on the bush. Purely my opinion.

I use Motul oil in my Boxxer, takes about 30 minutes to do an oil change and fit fresh seals. A full strip down and service doesn't take more than an hour either smiley2.gif

Maybe I should email FOX' date=' just as a bit of a FYI kind of thing.

What is your opinion on the Enduro fork seals?

I haven't fitted those to any bike yet but a chum of mine runs a bike shop in Chester, Uk and they rave about the seals. They now replace the seals at frst service of all forks bought from their store and the customers are happy.

Blokes down the road at The Edge Cycle works have similar stories to tell about Enduro seals so I guess they are good.

Rush sports distributes the product in SA but not sure if Andre has seals for all brands yet. He posts on thehub as MorewoodKid. drop him a PM for info on a retailer near you.

OK ' date=' would you mind servicing my shock ? Lefty will definitly not do it !![/quote']

Of course I'll do it but I'll go one step better. I'll open it when you're here and I'll pour the oil in a clean container and you can see for yourself what's inside. We'll post the pics, comparing the new oil to what came out of your fork.

I see you're in Gauteng, so make a date: 0823086847

Popped as in worn, I suppose, not as is blow off. You may well be right. Wear from the bush will quickly show up in the white teflon layer on the bush. That will be bad news.
