Fatal Oudshoorn accident

I Checked out the carforum site and did anyone else notice that the smashed bakkie is standing near a T Junction sign? He had just passed an intersection.  Truck pulls out and driver think F%U and overtakes???

if I lived closer, I would go out and measure the skid marks, to calculate vehicle speed, look for speed signes and check if it was possible that the bakkie was actually overtaking the truck which had pulled out onto the R62.  Which could mean he crossed the solid white line.  Just my thoughts.

Looking at the amount of damage to the bakkie, he must have traveled at a high speed I would say.  And the skid marks go for a bit before he came to a standstill under the T-junction sign...  Whatever happened, it was a sad day for SA Cycling Cry

This is extremely sad. Our Prayers are with the grieving families and friends.

There are F@#ks out there who think it's funny to push a cyclist off the road!

Because of ppl like those on that forum, there will alwqys be death on the roads.

Completely disgusting posts on that forum - isn't there a moderator actually doing his job? Some of the stuff is just beyond human understanding. Nevertheless, I believe in kharma ...

Wat uitstaan in die Burger se berig is dat daar omtrent 11 ryers in single file gery het' date=' die 3 wat agter gery het, het blykbaar gesterf.

 

 

 

Hoe mis die bakkie bestuurder die eerste klomp maar ry die "stert kant"" van die single file raak?

 

 

 

Is die son al by 6h05 op die horizon?

 

 

 

Was daar n wind wat (miskien) die agterste ryers dalk meer in die pad in laat slip het?

 

 

 

Dis regtig tragies, om te dink dis van die ouer gardes wat nou rustig hulle lewe geniet het na al die jare se werk.

 

 

 

Mag hulle families geseen en van krag voorsien word in hierdie tragiese tydperk.

My vraag is omtrent CyclingSA....dit wat gebeur het is 'n SWART dag vir SA fietsry.....maar soos altyd skitter CyclingSA in hulle stilswye en afwesigheid....nie eens 'n verklaring of enigiets van hulle kant af nie...hulle almal is useless en ek word gedwing om gelisensieerd te wees...

Volgens Garmin is die sonsopkoms vir Oudtshoorn 06h23. Die ongeluk het om 06h05 plaasgevind. Met die hoe berge in die omgewing is die bewering van son in oe oe dalk snert!!!!

 

Die bakkie staan net verby 'n T-aansluiting..... daar is gewoonlik 'n soliede streep.

 

As julle mooi kyk na die foto, daardie handvatsel wat daar agter uitsteek lyk soos die van 'n vibreer roller wat vir padbou doeleindes gebruik word. Die goed weeg gewoonlik in die omgewing van 1,5 tot 1,9  ton. Dit maak dat die bakkie baie swaar gelaai was ook.

What I do not understand is that poeple are even dare to mention single file or not....look at it this way, if the cyclist were side by side they would have been taking up the same space as a small car...thus this accident would have read in the news..."head on accident on R23, bakkie and "small car"

 

So it does not matter in my eyes weather it was cyclist, a small car, a donkie cart.....etc... this person did not "see" the other traffic (that happened to be cyclist this time) when passing another car.

 

The root cause of this accident is surely the drivers fault, overtaking where it was not safe....does not matter what the other traffic was doing or what is was...could have been a donkie cart.

Ek is ook een van daai CSA mense, nou nie n full time job, maar my naam is daar.

n Press release gaan vandag uit- sean b wat dit sou doen is nie kontakbaar, dink hy is dalk in hospitaal by sy vrou.

CSA sal 5000 pamflette by ekspo uitdeel om mense te vra om swart armbande te dra. ek het ook hierdie campaign begin.

n halfblad advertensie is gesamentlik uitgeneem deur CSA, PPA met n verklaring in Argus, dit sal voor wedren sondag verskyn.

die Giro bunch sal sondag n statement maak op televisie, dalk stop n kilo van begin van wedren en op TV praat

n paar CSA volunteers sal sondag van 5h met swart tape rondloop en versprei aan ryers wat nie armbande het nie

een van ons mense was verlede week vir 1e keer by n national road safety summit en baie goed vloei daaruit.

as jy aan nog idees dink laat weet my en ons kan dit ook probeer

Coenie, ons moet onthou dat die polisie 'n ondersoek doen en al hierdie vrae be-antwoord moet word deur hulle verslag.

 

 

 

Dan as die hofsaak kom, is ek seker hierdie motor bestuurder se prokureer gaan alles moontlik doen om te sien hoeveel blaam hy weg kan swaai van die bakkie bestuurder.

 

 

 

Ons praat hier en opper sekere vrae, nie om moeilik te wees of omdat ons nie omgee,

 

 

 

ons praat en spekuleer maar net soos wat die prokureers nou in die hof gaan voorgee sodat hulle die beste vir hulle klient kan kry.

 

 

 

Was dit moedswillig, Was dit bloot nalatigheis, was dit net 'n ongeluk?

 

 

 

Net die hof sal kan besluit en op grond van wat daar in die hof aangebied gaan word.

 

 

 

Die polisie kan nog die aanklad van srafbare manslag to moord verander, maar hulle sal dit alleenlik doen as hulle voel hulle saak staan sterk, as hulle twyfel sal hulle dit hou by manslaf en los vir die hof om te besluit.

popeye I fully understand what you are saying, and only posted my comment...more in response to what I heard on the radio etc...and some "other" comments I noticed on the hub...

 

Ek dink net dat die meeste mense begin skreeu het...soos byvoorbleeld op daai motorforum dat dit kon voorkom gewees het as die fietsryers dit of dat gedoen het.

 

All I wanted to do is point out that we should not look at the cyclist first, and more what the root cause of the accident was....the way I see it...If you approach a bus...we all "should" expect that someone will "appear" from beind it...and be prepared.

 

Root cause is my only point...Maar soos ek se, ek weet 100% wat jy bedoel, die meeste mense hier "spekuleer" net, maar daar is diegene what blameer...jy praat van spekuleer hey? Wie het wat gedoen etc.

 

Ek het probeer uitwys dat daar mense hier is wat blameer voordat hulle die root cause ondersoek het.....maak dit meer sin??Confused

actually, it's very important, for how else can we learn from the mistakes made when when we dont even know what the mistakes are?

Nebulous statements like "the mistakes are obvious why investigate", or "it's so damn obvious who is at fault". That sort of emotional charged bias is the really irrelevant aspects of this tragedy. A clinical, unbiased examination of facts is what is necessary. Grieving is for those directly affected. It's for the rest of us to commiserate in thought (arm bands), but more importantly in action by ensuring this doesn't happen again.
