Where do you put the magnet for a bike computer on the spoke?

Closest to the hoop, or closest to the hub - or doesn't it matter?

Also - if the rear tyre reads 26x2.00, and the front tyre reads 26x2.10 - but the manual's "quick-pick" selection only has the former as an option, is it ok to simply set it at that - or should I rather calculate it myself as shown in the manual?

I can only assume that not getting this 100% right will bring about an inaccurate reading - but by how much?

Any thoughts?

Ps - happy Easter Hubbers - travel safe!

really does not matter.  You should be riding with a GPS like garmin.

uhm - ja, but I'm not. Unless you're interested in sponsoring me an early birthday present? Tongue

one revolution whether its at the hub or the rim makes no diffrence on spin around is one spin around...all the same speed only diffrence the outside(rim) looks faster than hub as it has to move for longer....

Does not matter on where on the spoke. Set it so that the magnet and sensor is close enough to work consistently.

Work out your sensor wheel size manually and set that into the meter - will be the most accurate.

OK but what happens if you a slow poke like me and riding a lefty where the magnet and sensor can only be positioned close to the center of the wheel, sometimes the speedou? goes 2 sleep when I am wincing up a hill at below 5 km/hour. Why? Current induced to the sensor by the magnet is proportional to the speed at which the lines of magnetic flux pass thru the sensor coil, the further out and up on the wheel spoke the magnet is the higher the radial velocity, and the less likey it will think you have stopped, so it can matter why you place it (thats my reasoning anyway)?

Do not listen to the canary sing..... he likes to brag!!!!!!

You can position it anywhere covenient on the spoke as long as the gap between the magnet and the pickup is correct and it sends the revolution. What is important though is that you enter the correct circumference of the tyre. Instructions should be in the booklet.

This kinda makes sense - and I'll be sure to keep it in mind if I ever have lapses... especially since I'm also only slightly faster than photosynthesis going up a hill! LOL

Make a mark on the floor with chalk, use your valve as the start/emd point. From the 'floor' mark, push bike forward until wheel does a complete revolution. Mark the resting point on the floor and measure. That distance is the what you meaure and input into your Polar or whatever you have. They will have a guide as well.
