Hi There,

I am buying my first Mountain Bike, I am looking at a Merida Matts Sub 60-d. Just wanted to know if this is a good starter Bike, planning to go cycling with a few friends at the Tokai Bike Trail. Probably once a week to start with and then progressing to cycling a bit more often once I get my fitness levels up a bit.

Any help, suggestions, recommendations would be appreciated.

I've got the Merida Sub-60v - REALLY awesome value for money. Its not the lightest bike, but its got good components and its never given me one minute of hassles. The last race I did with it I came 3rd.

Once a week? Just wait till you get hooked!! More like every day... Tongue

You are probably right. Is R4500 a good price for a 4 month old used one?

Still in very good nick!!!

Not such a good price.. I paid R4200 for mine brand new (Ok - I twisted the salesman's arm, and I bought about 2k of extras as well).

If you're in Somerset West Area, speak to Maverick Cycle world. They really do give excellent prices

I would but no-one has stock! Every year is the same story. They never bring enough into the country..

Thanks fandacious, Just need to sell my bike that i bought last week. I thought it was a mountain bike but turned out to be a hybrid. It is a Trek 7300fx.

Can now kick myself.

I know,

Was a really dumb move, the Trek is good though, apparently used to reatil for R7000 without extras so it wasn't a totally bad buy, just a completley wrong one....

Do you think R2200 is a fair price for the Trek 7300? It is still in a very good condition, just a few superficial scratches.

I'll give you R22 for it.  I'll rebuild it as a cyclocross bike.

Might be something in this though - there are supposedly people out there that are keen to take up cyclocross - if your Trek could be easily converted, you might set up an easier sale...

Search this site for info re Cyclocross - apparently two chaps in the Cape Town area that know plenty about the sport - track them down, and chat with them about whether your bike could be converted...

And if so - you might be in the money..

Cannot see many people specifically looking for a hybrid bike as is...

Cyclocross might get you further...
