You don't have to match the brand of the disc to the brand of the other brake components.

You have to stick to the sizes you have or, buy different adapters to bring the callipers closer to the hub, should you want to go with smaller discs. These adapters sit between the frame or fork and calliper and are for a single disc size only.  If you go for the smallest disc - 140 I think, you may be able to mount the callipers directly onto the fork without the adapters. But, this depends on the type of fixture on the fork.

thanks so would normal 160 (b) 180 (f) shim center lock rotors work perfect and are they good are you happy with them Johan

Yes, your existing discs will work if everything was centrelock and still is centrelock.

Am I happy with them? Everyone who knows me knows that I upgraded to v-brakes years ago.

However, 180mm and 160mm discs are a very high spec and is more than what most people need.

If I understand you correctly, you had 6-botl discs and now have centre-lock wheels. You can use the existing discs by fitting a special bolt-to-centre-lock gadget. Pricey, so consider your options.

Fit your new wheels and go ride. Tell us about your latest trail discoveries and forget about the equipment.

Got a set of adapters from the lbs yesterday. They convert 6 bolt disks to center lock. Works like a bomb and easy to install. R320 for a pair.

AFIK there is no way to use a 140mm disk on the front ? I know its wrong but im not big on the front brake and wouldnt mind a weight saving...

how much would you save with 140 mm in stead of 160mm rotors?

i need to go show you a place where you may need those front brakes ... eish ...

smiley3.gif The front brake is the one that will slow you down not the rear one ! Cat-I the next thing these weight weenies would wanna change their rotors to CD's !

AMEN brother!!!

Just this SAt I got all locked upon the back wheel on a mother of all downhills (loose scree / rocks) and the locked backwheel caused me to dismount in a very ungraceful manner....Embarrassed

Next time = more front brakes or walking down that hill!!
