Balancing your bike takes effort??????...... nah, centrifical action take care of that. You do use more muscles in your upper body though. The main reason is the extra adrenalin on the road. The thrill of cycling, cars, wind and cyclists around you and the like. The varying grades of a road also will have an effect. Subtle changes in grades will mean changes in exertion. On a spinn bike this is mostly constant...... unless you use a large industrial type fan that forces you to spinn against a headwind!!!!!!!! Hendrik Petoors2007-07-20 01:00:32

Yip this effort of keeping the bike upright is rubbish, if you need to exend effort then it is time to bolt some training wheels onto your 30 k carbon creation.

Spinning bikes retain momentum in the fly wheel, so you need to have enough resistance to counter the momentum, that is basicaly all, up the resistance, keep the cadece above 80 RPM and you will have no problems. My spinning instructors always "instruct" at low HR, I aim to go 10% higher than them, my instuctors also cheat with the resistance, you need to feel what is right for you. If you are meant to be on a hill, simulate what that feels like on the road, simmilarly headwind flats etc..

When in doubt just work the bike hard and fast. the wheel should always have a sticky feel, you must never coast along, a total waste of time

GLO MY!
