Guest Frail4Life Posted May 12, 2010 Share Ok. I received a reply stating they want everything in writing first. To communicate via email before they will consider a personal (face to face) meeting. Ok. Are you going to put our comments together for them? Man.... Wouldnt it just be easier if they were on the hub so that we could have a open forum with them? I will start tonight. Lucky Luke. Posted May 13, 2010 Share Their website needs help. The information on it has always been lacking, for example often there is no link to register for an event and there is an inexplicable pattern of putting the most useful information at the bottom of the page - seeding page, events calendar page are cases in point. I believe most people visit the site to a) check out event details b) register for events or find out how to do so c) check out their seeding. Why not put the seeding id number form in the navigation on every single page? Why not put upcoming events in reverse chronological order on the home page? Marshalling has also been very iffy. Theuns Van der Bank was run over at a marshalled junction. Marshalls were sitting in the middle of the traffic circle doing nothing when it happened and continued to do nothing to take the plate of the vehicle that hit him. Simonsvlei was also an abortion of an event, but I think everyone knows that by now.

Nix M2 Posted May 13, 2010 Share With regards to seeding - and i'm in the minority on this one, but worth mentioning. I race woman's league and due to the small numbers and the actual racing that takes place, our times are a lot slower than if we were in large groups. And hence my seeding is dropping as each race receives a bad index. At face valueMy suggestion is that there needs to be an adjusted or weighted seeding for those of us competing in these league groups that are affected like this. [/quote'] Nix, I also saw that whilst going through all the reports. There is a group of like 12 of you competing against more than 50 men in the other league groups. There is no way that 12 of you even pulling really nicely together that you are going to be up to the standard of 50. The MS is in the same group as you (well actually the SS as well) Looking at the times, the MS guys are pretty much on par with you guys. Didnt they start the woman with the older vets in the argus as well? It would give both groups a better race time if you were able to ride together. So then there would be 30 odd riders in one group. At the end you guys will still be classed as a WL or MS but you have just been allowed to ride together. I wouldnt recommend teaming up with the SS guys as they can be very dangerous at times and they often do the short routes. But generally riding with slightly older guys, they have much more experience and the race/group quality will be far better. If they had to go the route of adjusting races times as you mentioned, how would they be able to manage that? They need a proper baseline of woman results compared to the men so they can adjust things from there. But even that proper baseline doesnt exist at the moment because you guys are already disadvantaged. Something else that I saw looking through the results. At the westcoast express the first few woman (fastest times) should have been the league groups (it should always be like that) but there were a couple of woman riding in the normal cats that beat you guys. Obviously they were pulled along in the mens groups, but once again that is unfair for you guys in WL. (It is like the A bunch beating the EL group, that would cause big K@k) I am sure that this must be happening in other races as well.
Woofie Posted May 13, 2010 Share I had a chat to another cyclist here at work earlier. We both feel (and I am sure the rest of you will as well) that once we have submitted our requests we need to put some muscle behind our demands. We have often emailed them and we get the petty replies but what good will it do. We would have now spent the last two weeks putting thoughts together and when it finally goes to them it is most probably just going to be "another complaint email" I am sorry to be so serious about this, but if we dont do something big like 1000 of us not renewing our membership or something then all of this would have gone to waste. And then next year we are still going to be sitting here unhappy with the way that things are being run. I also know that there are alot of unhappy cyclists that are not on the hub and we also have to somehow get in contact with them as well. It also amazes me how many people there are on the hub that I have seen moaning about the ppa previously are totally quiet now. Come on guys. Get some balls. If you dont stand up for what you want in life then what is the point. David, thanks for putting all the info together for us. I am just scared that they are going to bulldoze all over you if you go in there by yourself. But if you have lank people supporting you, you will most definitely make a impact. If all of that fails then its time to get a new road race company on the go. Ditch all of the current stuff and start afresh.
Bike Mob Posted May 13, 2010 Share my biggest concern is safety i suppose. In the final 5 KM there should be zero traffic. Police and marshalls should be made aware that we will be approaching at 50kmph plus and be competing for one square meter. I dont like the face that the winning time gets adjusted. I finished the argus 10 mins behind the winner. and that included a 7 time TDF champion. How much faster do you want me to go to get an A seeding? My 2010 Argus time is not even on the list of seeded race results that give me my seeding. Why is every race in wellington. my petrol bill from the southern suburbs is 4 times the price of my entries. then you get summer league in our neck of the woods and only 3 races actually happen here. i work on saturdays - I have a road bike and a mtb. But every damn mtb race is on Saturday. i race so much road because the calendar forces me to. Please mix it up a little on the mtb side so i can get to some. or cant you make a late start like the Super series! What the hell is the point of having WP champs in the middle of nowhere? Your form is gone, SA's are over, you dont get stripes on your Jersey...so why even hold them. One winner? Even squash has 8 -10 people on it and they all get colours, and it's also an individual effort. Award a podium of 5 colours or something, then maybe more that 10 people will pitch up and you get a true contest! Why wear two jersey number for league, PPA numbers are single and they are big enough to read. League also has a bike number in case you cant read it. Guest Frail4Life Posted May 13, 2010 Share I am a mere Cyclist who is HUNGRY to go and RIDE! For the last eight years, I have paid my fees every year. Every year the same questions get raised but what is done??? I am concerned, this year I am going do more than just ask the questions. For those that do not know me, I am a very relaxed quiet person. BUT I have had TEE with the Deputy Major of Cape Town. On two separate occasions been given a Police Escort on my bicycle in "Rush Hour Traffic" on the N1 Freeway. I have cycled Solo Cape Town to JHB and back three times. I have cycled Solo from Cape Town to "Compete in the Amashovashova, OFM, 94.7, Double Century,Burger" one Race to the next Race and back to Cape Town. I have cycled to Knysna, Plettenberg Bay, East London and back. Why because I AM HUNGRY. All for the greater good of others.
