Ultegra is R7000 and dura ace is R16000. Apart from the reduced weight, what other advantages does the dura ace have to command such a price difference ?

I would lean towards Ultegra, if weight / bragging rights is not an issue.

If you are a Shimano fan, I suggest you try test ride Di2 - it will blow your mind.

(On second thought, try Di2 even if you are a Campy or SRAM fan. It will still alter your perceptions on shifting)

If only money grew on trees, we would all have Di2. But thanks anyway. Bugdet is leaning towards ultegra.

I can guarentee you that if you were to ride a bike with black unbranded Ultegra and then rode another with black unbranded Dura Ace, you would not be able to tell the difference.

For me, the only nice thing about Dura Ace is that fantastic colour scheme. I would never pay an extra R9 000 for it though.

Get the Ultegra and spend the extra money on really awesome wheels

I won't take DA just because it is ugly just like XTR. Why can't they just leave thing polished or silver.

That's why i prefere the 7800 DA groupset.....all nice and shinny.

For the price of the Ultegra you can get a 7800 DA group.

It's not only about the weight.some of the internal parts are a liitle stronger on the DA.

Is your choice limited to Shimano?

Without getting into a heated debate, have you considered the new Sram Force? Probably the best value around in terms of performance and weight.

Approximate weights

Dura Ace: 2050g for about R16 000.00

Sram Force: 2105g for about R8 000.00

Ultegra: 2300g for about R7 000.00

There was someone selling new Ultegra SL for 5k. Why not look at that?

Do you know who that was ? If so send me his details.

I was one of the fools that upgraded from Ultegra 6700 to DA 7900.

Apart from the internal STI cables and the BLING BLING factor i don't notice much of a difference.

Regret paying so much for the 7900.

Imo the ergonomics of the DA7900 shifters is a substantial improvement over old Ultegra & DA. DA7800 was a superb gruppo, except for the stupid & uncomfortable brifter shape.

For me the other big negative was looks. No carbon bits (when Campy had them for ages) and the external shift cables was just fugly - completely spoiled the  look of a bike for me. New Shimano a HUGE improvement on looks Thumbs%20Up
