Men are from Mars and Women are from Venus

I'm not so sure about the heading...female cyclists do the same as the males...racing is a cyclist thing!! We all have ego's, maybe yours was just shattered a little!!

But no matter gender, I'm with Agteros, if you say your riding with the person, then ride with them!!

I suffer this fate every Saturday as I am the woman in my club!  At least now I know it's inevitable.

But there are still gentlemen out there and I am never left behind completely.

Then ride with the guys that don't shave their legs and drink beer ;-)

Those guys are from Mars, the others are from Venus.

I'll back you on this.

I've had to take care of a lady on a group ride' date=' where she was invited by another bloke, but he decided to rather race with the guys... I mean really, if you invite people to cycle with you, then you CYCLE WITH THEM, not just start with them!

Agree 100's in our club there is a guy who regulary rides away from his wife leaving other riders to look after her.

Perhaps it not prudent for me to mention this on a largely male dominated HUB but I have to say boys I learnt the first rule about bike club this weekend.

No' date=' not don't talk about bike club, what do you think we're here for but the first rule of bike club is...(drumroll)...
NEVER EVER believe a boy (especially one with legs like Rob Roy) when he says he's going to take it easy and offers for you to ride with him.

I know you don?t mean to but you can?t help it. Your brains are overtaken by instinct and you cannot be held accountable for your actions. This I understand.

All I'm asking for is think about this BEFORE the ride...

...okay I'm outta here. I fear for my life smiley36.gif [/quote']

Be glad he was not Jake the PegLOL

Its simple:

Its not because you are a girl, its because we are boys. And boys will be boys as they say in the classics.

I am yet to go out on a leisurely ride that doesn't turn into a race... even if it is to the coolerbox in the back of the bakkie to crack open a cold one.

It also depends on what the route is like. If it is flat then the group will stay together more. If there are many uphills and undulations then the group will not stay together and will need some points to regroup. It is not because you are x or y or whatever, it is because we all have different abilities when it comes to hills. Some can ride them and others can't. So the riders must meet at the top and wait for the others.

Point here is gentleman there should always be someone or a small group that will be willing to stay with the slower riders, no point in getting someone new that now has to cycle well beyond their ability to stay with the group. That is demoralising and does take away the fun aspect.

I am still working on my fitness i go cycling with with my brother and his mates that do races like the Cape Epic, and to be frank, I am unfit, and slow. Even these guys get that urge to power up the hill, etc, but I have to admit, they will power off into the distance checkinng testosterone levels, then they even turn around cycle back to where I am swearing uphill. Point being I am never alone, and I dont mind them racing off becuase i know they will be back soon :) (Road cycling obviously different) but i think the same concept applies.

And if its a club ride, there should always be two groups, one for the fit and one for the errrmm not so fit, where no man/women gets left behind.

Well said - This post points out the difference between training and riding. When you train, you have certain goals in mind and sometimes people train with you that is on a different level. I try to ride with my wife and / or friends and family about once a week and the focus here is on helping with technique and to keep the spirits up. Most club / group rides cater for everyone's ability and fitness levels.
