ROAD CYCLING EVENT IN <?:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />WELLINGTON

<?:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

The Boland Cycling Union is hosting a road cycling event on Saturday 4 August 2007. The event will start and finish at the Nursery / Farm Stall on the R45 road (Malmesbury road) outside Wellington. The different categories will compete on a

13 km circuit, with rolling hills, just outside Wellington. This is also a great circuit for spectator viewing.

Under 10 and 12 riders will have to complete 27,6 km over 2 laps, under 14 54 km over 4 laps, under 16  67,2 km over 5 laps, ladies 54 km over 4 laps, Veteran cyclists will complete 67,2 km over 5 laps and the Junior and Elite cyclists will complete

93,6 km over 7 laps.

It is less than a month before the popular Pedal Power Association Spring League events start and this circuit will definitely test the cyclists level of fitness. The event will also definitely be good preparation for the under 16 cyclists that have the goal to compete in the forthcoming National under 16 Tour during September in Harrismith.

The first race, Juniors and Elites, will start at 14h00. The riders can enter on the day of the event at the Nursery / Farm Stall from 12h00. Entries will close at 13h45 on the day. Entry fees for Juniors, Elites and Veterans are R50-00 and under 10,12,14,16 and Ladies R30-00.

Directions to Start / Finish (Nursery) from Cape Town:  From N1, take the R44 ? Wellington slip way. At the stop street turn left on R44 towards Wellington. Continue on this road until the 4-stop crossing R44 / R45.

Turn left on R45, Nursery / Farm Stall on your right.

Why do they do this? its on the same day as the Stellenbosch MTB ride, which is fairly big on the events calendar.

Same reason why your dog licks its balls.

No, we also need to service the roadies in the Cape area. Esp the youngsters in Boland without mountain bikes. Most of the top roadies only do road. Like CSC, Pinnacle Point, Daikin, Maties. We had allmost no racing since April, and there are riders that want to get ready for spring series.

Sub vets start with vets, but usually the top sub vets race with elites. So they have a choice.

fandacious, get your running shoes out and do the Durbanville Dirty Double at Nitida on Sunday!  That way you don't have to wash your mtb after Stellenbosch and you don't have to fret about the road miles you missed out on.  Sounds like fun with 20k's of virgin mtb riding and 7,5km of running/walking.  Should make up for missing out on doing laps on the tar.

Anyway, apparently we can't be any good cause all the good roadies don't do mud...

Excuse me while I go and attempt to lick my....

If you want to be silly and ONLY do road, then dont complain about the lack of racing. I'm out and out a roadie, but I bought a cheapy MTB @ the start of winter because I knew there was no road races. Now 4days before a large-ish MTB event, a road race gets announced. What about all those who have already paid entry fees and made arrangements with friends to race the MTB race?

why does everyone make this sooooo complicated, if you wanna do the MTB go ahead do it.....if you feel like doing the road race then leave the MTB. Simple!

Hmmmm, wonder if I can finish at Stellenbosch, then do the Wellington ride before recovering for the Dirty Duathlon on Sunday?  Just want to make sure I have that divorce lawyer's number nearby...

If you can't decide, you could always do both!  The first road race only starts at 14:00!

Seriously, its a pity its on the same day.  If it had been the Sunday I would definitely have given it a bash!

Theres 2 things you could be referring to here:

1) the mtb rides in the results. Further in my post you'll also see that I bought a MTB just before winter. Hence the MTB rides.

2) I dont have 500 hundred results. 2006/09/09 was the first race i did since I started riding again. When I say I'm an out and out roadie i guess it means I will choose road over MTB anyday. However, and this is what my moan was all about in the beginning, Its a little short sighted to announce a race 4 days before the time. A Lot of people have already made plans and paid for the STB MTB race. The PPA calendar is up waaaaaay in advance... why didnt they have the race last weekend when the calendar was empty?

Lem, my ou maat, aangesien die top sub vets saam met die elites kan wegspring.......kan die swakste elites maar saam met die sub-vets wegspring? Asb. dan is ek daar......
