mmmm.... For some reason I totally misread the price earlier. I really need some more sleep.

R180 is really not that bad at all.

For that price it is not really worth wasting your time building something.

Check this one out for a bike air horn.Bicycle Air horn

One day, I will make it my mission to put it right up to someones ear and "press play" because that would be good retribution for bad driving. Hopefully, he/she will have to go home for a shower and change of clothes before they go to work.

Looks like cycling to work from milnerton side will be easier soon. they coming along quite well with the cycle path. A few more hundred meters or so then it will be tarred all the way from royal ascot to Parden :D

I've looked at some nice cheap panniers from Amazon via Take2. Can get a nice set (rack + panniers) for < R1K. I currently use my CamelBak but besides lack of space, I'm getting so tired of being harassed by other MTBers in the evening asking me where is that secret trail I ride. They all seem convinced that I'm talking kaak when I tell them I'm commuting.

OK, I do where my MTB shoes, shorts, top & Camelbak and my slicks are 1.9 and look like hardback tyres to some - so it might be misleading.

Hi All

I've been considering using a bicycle to get to work. I don't live too far and I think it would save a ton of $$$. Does anyone here cycle to work? What advice can you give? Would a roadbike be better than mtb?

I cycle 18km's one way, got a gym at work so showers & lockers is a bonus.

I'd definitely say Road bike if you want to get to work & home in the shortest possible time.

Lights is highly reccommended, I wear one of those high-visibility vests over my backpack as well as a neon green relfective wind breaker - don't give motorist an excuse to knock you down(......huhh! I didn't see you)

All you need is small thumb bell that is useful when you are behind a pedestrian just to let them know you are there without spooking them, mine just arrived from Evans Cycles together with other goodies, such a simple thing really, never seen them on the shelves here.

Yeah, got my little Hubber the bell from Sportsmans (R30 randts or something like that). He loves to play with it when I attach it to the baby car seat.

But must say that my PC9 HRM helps a lot. It beeps quiet loudly when I drop out of the Power Zone and that always happens when I need to slow down for the tekkie brigade. Also need to get my chain and cassette noisey again, after I installed them I nearly had a couple of accidents as the people could no longer hear.

I cycle any where. Have been the last 7 odd years.

If it is to go to the Shop or to Work.

My commute is 20km one way, either 09h00 in the morning if I have a long day or 16h00 in the afternoon(short day). Returning home at 02h00 in the morning.

I carry a day pack / Camel pack with me and take a fresh uniform every two days in to work.

Lights, I have found a light fitted to the front of your helmet is a lot more visible than a handle bar mounted light.

Joke.

It was raining recently, that heavy storm last month. I stopped at the petrol station, I had my Camel pack covered in its raincover(yellow).

Here this Call out Electrician comes and asks if that is a Parachute that I am carring???
