Glad it's not too long that you are off the bike! Speedy recovery...and maybe you should think about doing MTB rather...no crashes like these! ;)

NO!!! Stay away from the Dark Side, your hard earned tax money pays for good (in places) roads! & it's cleaner :P & apparently cheaper?

I've been riding since 2007 and have fallen many times on my MTB, but never on my road bike, and nothing like this. But I love both, and I'm super thankful that I have been granted more time on my bikes - whether with mud in my face, or with the soothing hum of the bunch's wheels in my ears! And always with a helmet (and a humble attitude)!

And I should mention that any trauma I experienced was nothing compared to what my wife went through waiting for me at the finish line for one and a half hours, with our 2-year old daughter. She was one of the many silent hero's of the day. Love you, R!

:rolleyes:heres some pictures from the scene

That orange bear is doing it wrong. Also from the deadpan expression you can see he's got no compassion. Hopefully next time there will be qualified compassionate bears at the scene.

All I can say is the technology of today is amazing. Someone has a major bike fall with memory loss and hectic injuries and a couple of days later he asks online if anyone knows about his fall. Then the guy who rode next to him comes in and explains the whole story....amazing.Couple of years ago this would have just been a super bad memory in someone's head that would have kept them from ever cycling again, now at least the person knows that others know about his fall and how it happened....I think it helps to work through the trauma of a fall like that!

Wanna-b bad luck with your fall there and Bos you did well, dont let anyone tell you otherwise.

Hope you recover. Had a similar accident at Chapmans. Cracked ribs, broken collarbone and broken (and moved) vertebra and two ruptured disks. Mentally I never recovered from that accident. Carried on cycling for couple of years, but was too scared to ride in groups. Stop cycling.

Then about a year ago my son discovered my bike. He started cycling and ended up riding league. Slowly I stated cycling again, even MTB. My first ever MTB was Argus MTB. I got so paranoid that I almost died. .

Currently I am full into road and MTB with my son, 4 times a week. (going to do Burger 60km MTB and K2C).

Currently I cannot walk or stand for longer than 30 minutes, to much pain from back into my leg. Luckily no pain while I cycle or surf. To risky to have operation. I am taken a risk cycling races, will do it for one more season.

Hope you recover mentally and physically.

Ok, now that we know that you are doing better Wana-b, and that Bos is off the hook and can enjoy his sleep for a change, how is your Merida doing?

Merida is great. Loves Climbing:rolleyes: Im enjoying it verrry much. My Mtb is actually a bit jelous at the moment cause it still has Knysna dirt on it and hasnt been ridden since.

you know, I kinda hear what you guys are saying but at the end of the day this is racing and a par for the course as far as I'm concerned. I had a pretty similar incident at the Carnival City ride, woke up in the ambulance en route to the hospital, asked a few guys on thehub the following week if they saw what happened and left it at that. These things happen, its not nice but like I said its racing.

jeez HeartCoppi you an ex-smoker by any chance lol

As for accidents, I will stop if there is no one else there to help, or if I am asked to help of course. Often do so with mechanicals, but there I do have some skills to offer.

Good to hear alls well there m8. I drove to CT from Naaisna on the Sunday am past all the cyclists in both directions: looked a bit tricky at times to say the least.

if someone goes down in the the bunch . the last thing we need is for everyone to look around wondering if all and sundry that have fallen, are ok. if you are concerned (or if you have caused the fall) , slow down until the rest of the bunch have ridden past you then ride back to the "scene" and then do the necessary.

cycling is a great sport and falls are part of the game, they are going to happen. period.

get the bike, yourself fixed and start again, slowly and have fun.

Amen to that... especially since I thought I had blacked out before the fall. Very grateful for thehub!

Question is, wanna-b, how're you doing? Recovery going well? What's the prognosis for getting back on the bike?

Hey, very much in two minds (no pun intended!). Can't take any chances for another 6 weeks due to concussion. And ribs need a few more weeks. But mentally I'm not ready either. I loved bunch riding, but right now I can't look at my bike without thinking: "unstable!" Time will tell. Will be patient and trust the Lord to show the way.
