Okei, so each year at this time I seem to get frustrated with my pedals. I rode with look type pedals when I started as U/14, then got myself a set of Campag profit pedals and since 2002 Ive been riding Time. First the old type, but then upgraded to the newer Time RXS and this year got the new iclic this year(but took them off after my cleats were worn after 3 months and cleats are expensive). The old ones was the best, but big and heavy, then came the RXS but cleats got expensive and it felt as if the pedals wore quickly. I modified my one set of RXS by making a Stainless steel plate that I bolted to the pedal platform, but one thing that is still irritating me is the fact that I pull my foot away from the pedal too easily, causing a jerky movement and clunky noise.

Now my question, do you have the same experience as me with these pedals?

I like the Time brand because my foot doesnt rock on the pedal as much as with look pedals(which I have tried and dont like) and Im not too fond of shimano (campy rider).

How does the speedplay work for you, will I get any of these problems with them? Or am I looking for the imposable by wanting a rock solid cleat?

Look has come a long way since you last played with them. They now have bigger contact area and even that stainless steel section you had to put on the Times. Cleats are cheap and they even have rubber end to walk on and not slip.

I still like my Ultegras though.

You're spot on Mampara....and by far the most used pedal system in the world.

The pedals are insanely expensive now, but been using a set of Record Pro-fit pedals for 9 years now... The cleats last for years and cost very little (currently R120 on CRC) and never had the slightest problem with the pedals (they work like the day I got them still). I don't have much to compare them to obviously, but doubt there are many pedals which can beat them IMO for quality and durability.

If I look at CWC web site there is realy not much to choose from on the prices for cleats between, Look, Time and Shimano. Riding Time and Shimano at the moment and if weight is a problem I choose the Time's but from Durability and Cleat wear defenitely the Shimano's. If you do not like the rock on the Shimano' get the red one's as they have 0 degree float compared to the 6 degree on the yellow ones. I still have my first set of PDM 540 pedals and they still working fine. New ones are better though with the stainless plate on top.

I have been riding Look pedals for the last 5 years after switching over from Shimano 105's. I find that they (the look pedals) do not have the squeeking sounds that the Shimano pedals do. I currently ride the Look Keo carbon pedals and they are great- no problems at all.

I have used Shimano for several years with no real complaints.

I am going to try the Look Keo 2 Max - just for the sake of trying something different.

Thanks for all these replies. Looks like look really has n few fans. Looking at trying a set of speeplays for testing. If that stil doesnt satisfy, then I might try the keo max if I can find a pair to test.
