We were three guys that bought together before the Transbaviaans from Magicshine (1400 lumne units). One out of the three was dead on arrival - actually it wouldn't switch off. Had it replaced at no charge.

Pro's:

* Unbelievable beam - better than my motorbike!

* easy an convenient charging system

* Good lighting modes - especially continuos dim mode

Cons:

*Mounting sucks - rubber band - made a good DIY mounting with mount bought from CRC

*LED in switch cannot be switched off - only if you unplug the battery

*Battery connector can be hard to unplug

Battery life is OK. I've learnt to ride on dim and only use spot when needed - this way you can stretch to 4,5 hours depending on use of spot. Never use with dim and spot both on - no real benefit and it sucks the battery dry.

Did sever al test: On dim I get 6 hours, on spot 3.5 hours on spot and dim 2.5 hours.

Overall a great light - was very amusing to see riders scurrying off ot the side of the road if I changed to spot behin them - scared the hell out ofmay who though its a car thatcrept up on them. Many teams stuck to us for light.

You clearly have some sort of personal vendetta against Magiclights.

What's up?

If he tried to create a bad rep for the product he now has his foot stuck up his @ss in a spectacular fashion.

Magiclights are great! I used mine during the Transbaviaans and the standard battery lasted until the end. I used the last charging station for 10 minutes and that gave me the extra few minutes I needed.

But my light has been cutting out with my morning commute since then. It is currently with the Tygerberg MTB club (they had a special on the lights a couple of weeks ago) and I will be receiving a replacement shortly.

The light might not be indestructible, but it is capable enough and the after sales service is amazing.

I have been using my Magicshine 900 lumen light for over a year now. We bought direct from dealextreme i think March 2009 (that makes it 18 months). I do on average about 3 nightrides a week. I have had major falls with them and treat the lights like crap. I have riden in some serious rain and have had 2 falls in which I have got concussions. I have bought a second battery pack to be able to do 24 hour races. The only issue I have had are the following.

1. Broken contact which I fixed using the charger of the second battery pack.

2. One cell in my first battery pack died. Replaced it since they use laptop batteries. cheap.

Verdict - the lights are great - and for what I paid amazing value for money.

The other question is: Why start this thread?

Is fastbike selling another set of lights or did he have a bad experience with Magiclight?

My Magiclight has done its 2nd TB. Three of our team used Magiclights while the 4th member used a Bl... Needless to say, his battery died just before Suurbron after starting in the dark at Bergplaas. I generally get 8h from a charge using combination dim/bright. For the price, there is really nothing to compare it with.

Well, just a quick survey showed 6 gone faulty with the Baviaans, thats only of some people on the hub, not to mention the people not on the hub. The only foot up in the @ss will be yours when your Magicshine fails on you. :P

Nice one Fastbike thanks for confirming my theory and in the process sticking your other foot in your @ss as well, hence the only realistic deduction we can make is that you are one major @ssh0le :)

And if you go through this thread you will see 99% happyness with the product.

That said I am gonna phone Chris now to see if he has two magic lights in stock.

My Magic Lights Rock and so does my son's!!

Awesome lights and are value for money. They are so cheap that if (BIG IF)they break it is still cheaper to buy another set than those expensive jobbies!

lol i do have my moments :D I hate dubious marketing and slandering thats unwarranted. This is a major old thread though.

fastbike...one can only deduce that as the inventor of brighter-lights i.e probably an electrial engineer or the like...you should hire a marketing person to help you get your product into the market, and not by trying to see how many lights failed but rather by testimonials of how good your kit is!....you should quit while you're NOT ahead!

To Our Valued Geomangear Customers,

Geomangear temporarily has stopped selling Magicshine lightsets due to our concerns regarding the safety, quality, and performance of Magicshine's lithium-ion battery packs sold by Geomangear between July 2009 and November 2010. We have determined that these Magicshine battery packs do not meet Geomangear's high expectations regarding product safety, quality, and performance. We have notified both the manufacturer of Magicshine lightsets and the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission that Geomangear intends to voluntarily recall all Magicshine battery packs sold by Geomangear.

We are actively working with the Safety Commission, outside engineering consultants, and a new battery pack supplier to evaluate product recall options for our customers. Geomangear will provide recall information and instructions directly to our affected customers after our final corrective action plan has been approved by the Safety Commission.

If you bought a Magicshine lightset from us between June 2009 and November 2010, please discontinue using your lightset until we are able to provide you with an upgraded replacement battery pack. Despite our best efforts, this process will take some time, and we ask for your patience. You can rest assured that Geomangear has taken, and will continue to take, appropriate steps to protect the safety of our customers, and we will stand behind our products. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you and appreciate your continued loyalty and support during this unprecedented situation our company is facing.

Lol I also got that mail my battery is still working 100% though but I think I need to start charging it in a fireproof container or something from now on! Would be great if they send us new batteries though Ill be keen to send my extensively used 1-year old battery back for a brand new one.

Pfft, some american probably had a cell die on him while riding and had to walk home, so now he is sueing for mental scarring due to being afraid of the dark.

My ML light is 1,5years old already. It did die on me once, but that was because I never switched on the charger.

If you have a bit of electronic know how you can open the lights and fix them yourself. A mate of mine even replaced his battery's cell with units from a laptop battery.

Magiclight for the win!
