I've got a little story to do with Stan's, tubeless tyres and bombs. (Spring Classic)

1. Tubeless is great until you get a hole that won't seal!

2. Bombing a flat (ish) tubeless tyre is just a waste of a bomb!

3. All those thorns that have previously sealed are now broken off in the tyre.

4. Those thorns are impossible to remove on the side of the road, especially with the slippy Stan's stuff still inside.

5. Said thorns will make holes in the tube you put in the rim.

6. Two bombs are not enough, especially if don't carry a pump.

These lessons turned a 50 minute 1st lap into a 74 minute second.

Having said that it was my first puncture in 4 months!

did you have a tubeless 'crochet' kit?

You can take an energy bar...and something you can do prior to the race is hydrate effectively a few days before ...drinks lottsa water...it helps, incase you are a 40km cramper....don't go mad from the start and remember it is a lap race...so no secrets in the last 20km or so :)  can push it a little more...

helmet of course

decent hydration for the race

and if you got a hot sister, bring her with too, thats very very important :)

those tubeless fix kits work wonders, saved my friends arse twice in one day. i also find that tyres with wire beads work well, if you need too bomb it.

Pity the only hills you have are mine dumps Tongue

and so you have cycled here before I see LOL where can we take him boys??? I do recall a certain CT person telling me he will never ever make another comment about how JHB doesn't have hills after I took him for what I thought was a relaxed sat ride........

and i forgot to mention......we weren't around any mine dumps.....

as to what to bring.....

i have slime tubes on..... i carry a spare regular tube, a bomb + a pump, tyre levers

on longer rides i carry my hydration pack as my bike only has one bottle cage - when i carry the hydration pack these days i only half fill it as i don't seem to drink too much and carrying all that weight is like having a chain protector on :P dead weight

the bottle i fill with some fancy energy drink or at least i have been after i got a lecture on how only water is not enough

if i carry the backpack i throw in a multitool although being a girl i have no clue what i am supposed to do with it besides maybe adjust my saddle or something

gel or 2 and a FFWR bar.....

I'm still not sure where "the hole" was! I cleaned the tyre, put new Stan's in and the wheel is as good as new! As for the tube , it has seen better days!

Ok so, slime tubes are in and pumped. Patch repair kit is in the backpack, along with the pump, 3x extra tubes and tyre levers. I'll pop by Mikes to pick up a multi-tool later.

I'll also fill up my Hydrapak before going - since I won't be running anywhere near the front there may not be anything left at the waterpoints on my 2nd lap. Other than that, I think I'm good to go.

Hog: Me thinks if you intend to carry all that stuff with you then your overdoing it a tad...Enjoy the ride its logwood not a ride through the wild wilderness...

Make sure everything is ok and tight on the bike before the race

Pump tyre pressures just before race / warm up ride.

Take 1 tube, 1 x tyre lever (2 if u cant get by with 1), pomp (co2 gadget) - maybe add a patch or 2 if it makes u feel better.

Just enough liquid refreshment to last 2 laps (if a lap race use a water bottles instead of a backpack and get someone to hand you a fresh water bottle every lap or 2.)

Leave the multi tool in the car, with the other tubes and hydra pack.

What do you guys think about carrying a chain tool, it has happened twice to me (or someone riding with me) that during a race I have needed to repair a broken chain.

Why do it when you can overdo it? Big%20smile

I'm not too concerned about carrying a bit of extra weight - I need the exercise!

you should. and pack a handful of sram powerlinks (they're about R20 a piece and they work on shimano chains)
