Just join PPA if you a rider who does not want to ride SA road champs or major tours. Your PPA membership includes licence fees and you do not need to be a members of a club! PPA has Family memberships too.

Hello,

I didn't get it that the average person needs both the membership AND the Race License.

Only people who want this need the Racing Licence:

"A racing license allows a rider to represent South Africa and

participate in UCI sanctioned events. SA Championship events and SA

Colors require a racing license. CSA points will only be given to

riders a with full racing license"

Most of us would be members:

"Membership will entitle riders to race, be seeded and participate in

CSA sanctioned events. Exceptions are detailed under Racing License

Section."

All events now need people to be members of CSA:

"ALL sanctioned events require riders to be members of CSA

regardless of the distance ridden or whether the event is timed or

not. This excludes fun rides and 10km “fun or kiddies” rides."

Or have I got it wrong?

Posted

Correct...

You only need a race license if you are going to be doing Nationals, Provincials or any UCI events.

Everyone else just needs to be a member of CSA (like the old Cyclosport License) - That is R75 for the YEAR not per race

Really Levett, this is nothing new, except that the race license cost R300 last year, next time read the info twice before starting a rant.

Posted

Can you post the exact email from ROAG.

CSA and CGC have told me that the R75 membership is for all events and includes seeding except for provincials and nationals for example.

The full race licence is for national points and ranking, so provincials and nationals.

The day licence is if you have none of the above. Or if you only have the R75 membership and want to race for points in your cat at a national or provincial race, then the day licence applys.

There are numerous CSA threads on the hub as well, where this is talked about.

This is what the email from ROAG said... I thought it was pretty straight forward. Levett obviously stopped reading after seeing $$$$$

"CSA Membership and Licensing Policy: All riders taking part in CSA sanctioned events are required to be a Member of CSA for the year in which the race takes place, or to have a valid day license for every day of participation. Membership or a day license is a race entry requirement and is thus a prerequisite to enter a race.

2011 Licensing Process

Steps

1. Everyone must join CSA as a member

2. Once you are a member, you can upgrade to a full racing license

3. Or - You can take a day license for every day you race

Fees

1. CSA Membership R75.00

2. CSA Racing License R350.00

3. Day License R35.00

CSA Membership

Membership will be available through the CSA web site (www.cyclingsa.com) or affiliated online entry companies (when you enter a race like the Cycle Tour). If membership is taken through an online entry company, you will still have to complete certain details on the CSA website, but this will not stop you entering the race that you want to do.

CSA require all members to be a member of an affiliate (province) and a club. These options are all available on the CSA site. The system opens on 01 November.

Membership will entitle riders to race, be seeded and participate in CSA sanctioned events. Exceptions are detailed under Racing License Section.

CSA Racing License (UCI License)

A Racing license can only be bought once you are a member of CSA. This can only be done through the CSA web site (www.cyclingsa.com). If you join as a member on the CSA site, this process can be done at the same time. Otherwise you can upgrade to this option at any time. A license card will be issued and posted to you.

A racing license allows a rider to represent South Africa and participate in UCI sanctioned events. SA Championship events and SA Colors require a racing license. CSA points will only be given to riders a with full racing license.

Racing Licenses are for all riders 16 years and older. Youth Riders and younger can race and get all the racing license benefits as a CSA Member.

SO WHAT HAS CHANGED FOR 2011?

1. There is NO LONGER a Cyclosport option.

2. There is NO youth option.

3. ALL riders must become MEMBERS of CSA, as opposed to “buying licenses”.

4. Only people who want to race for national colours or UCI points need a racing “licence”. This comes with different criteria.

5. ALL sanctioned events require riders to be members of CSA regardless of the distance ridden or whether the event is timed or not. This excludes fun rides and 10km “fun or kiddies” rides.

6. CSA membership can be “purchased” at various places, including ROAG. After purchasing your membership, the rider will be required to go to the CSA website and complete certain information before the membership becomes “active”.

WHAT HAS NOT CHANGED FOR 2011?

1. ALL riders MUST belong to a club.

2. Club details must be completed by the rider on the CSA website after “purchasing” membership in order for membership to be “active”.

3. Event organisers will be responsible for ensuring riders are compliant.

4. Event entries will not be confirmed if riders are not compliant."

Agree with Sage.

I am also an average (slow?) rider who has no interest in joining a club or belonging to CSA, as it is I do almost no races. I ride for the pleasure of being out in areas where most people don't go and don't see how belonging to either of the groups above enhances/improves this for me.

Licences and road safety were probably the main reasons I stopped riding on the road ten years ago and decided to rather do mountain biking.

So, either it's very poor English or, following steps 1 to 3 in order: Everyone MUST be a CSA Member AND then you need Either a Full Race Licence or a Day Licence.

If everyone else is correct, it should say:

Steps

1. Everyone, except those who only wish to have a Day Licence, must join CSA as a member

2. Once you are a member, you can upgrade to a full racing license

3. Or -If you do not wish to Purchase CSA Membership, You can take a day license for every day you race.

From the Cycling SA Website:

ALL sanctioned events require riders to be members of CSA regardless of the distance ridden or whether the event is timed or not. This excludes fun rides and 10km “fun or kiddies” rides.

Are you just battling with the Ingels or are you just to lazy to read properly.

I even highlighted the important bits.

I'm not going to go into English lessons in public with you - the English is incorrect (though your 'interpretation' is correct (having read the CSA Website)).

Numbers run in sequence! and the opening (1) is EVERYONE MUST join CSA - therefore, even with a Day Licence, you MUST be a member of CSA.

R75 bucks gets you a membership (cyclosport license) and that is all you need. You don't have to do the upgrade to a full racing license.

I think it has been 75 bucks for the last 3 years so no increase to the best of my knowledge.

I don't have a problem with this either. I do have a problem with "You have to belong to a club" part and CGC that requires you to give them a cut aswell.

Yep, this is my understanding ... we buy the R75 membership and we can race to our heart's content for the year - but now even folks who do the smaller distances and un-timed events must also have valid CSA licenses.

Race snakes wanting UCI points and SA Colours etc will have to purchase the additional Race License.

I think that naming this particular additional license a "Race" license can easily cause confusion, as most people do want to enter "races" an will associate the names..eish!

Perhaps a good lesson for the CSA? Should they rather call it the "Competition license" ... ?

What are you talking about? YOU are the one that started this whole thread because you have no understanding for the common usage of simple words.

Read the first sentence from ROAG again.

All riders taking part in CSA sanctioned events are required to be a Member of CSA for the year in which the race takes place, or to have a valid day license for every day of participation.

You have to be a member Or you have to have a day license for each event.

If you had to be a member and buy a day license for every race, the I will be complaining and whining with you :D

Actually,

PPA membership gets you a cylcosport license

I am also not sure what the big who ha is about. The fun riders can take out a day license - you are allowed 3 a year, most fun riders don't even get to 2 a year. If you are doing more than 3 races a year then you are NOT a fun rider.

The Membership allows you to race all year around without incurring any additional fees. You are required to belong to a club and they will advise you that you don't need a racing license so no confusion. Club fees are reasonable, mine for instance is R220 per year. Some clubs are far more expensive but that is your choice to pay premium or not.
