Agree GOM but CSA control all racing and funrides in SA so they make the rules, however crap they are.Of course you can go ride anywhere on your own and not need a club but if you want to race or do a funride you must follow CSA rules.A lot of other sports(running, hockey ,cricket etc)are the same. You can play the sport in your back garden or anywhere you like, but if you want to take part in it competitively you have to belong to a club.

There seems to be a lot of confusion here. From what i understand for 2011 things are changing.

THERE IS NO CYCLOSPORT LICENSE ANYMORE.

You have to join CSA(R75) and then it's your choice for a full lisence or just pay for the day lisence every time you do a race.(Which could work out expensive if you race a lot)

You can also only get a full license if you belong to a club so you have to add that cost in as well.

Bottom line is we are going to K@K and betaal.

That's how I read it, but the consensus of opinion (despite the poor English) is that, to enter a race, you need:

Either

- Membership of CSA (R75 per annum)

Or

- A Day Licence of Every Race you participate in (R35 per Race)

And

- If you have CSA Membership, you can get a Race Licence (R350)

But

- You can't get a Race Licence without also having CSA Membership

Saint, or anyone else perhaps.....PLEASE tell me what CSA wants to do with R75 x ~100 000 licences...????

that is R7.5m???

What do WE get for this?

But what do we (the average cyclists/grass roots) get for our 'donations'! I, personally, can not see anywhere where CSA benefit us!

Maybe we should rather concentrate on sending these questions & possibly email all the threads to CSA and see what they say. Maybe that would be more constructive  Let them know hoe people really feel

Or you can do what I did this year. I joined a club as was required for the licence etc. etc.

This one:

Club Roag - R0.00

no charge and all above board and recognised! Ok so they dont issue club kit. No after race hospitality tents etc etc but it sure saves me a lot of money in the long run!

The only thing I have to pay is the R75-00 for CSA membership.

And in GP you need to pay the R75 HTH fees for CGC.

BTW, unless ROAG start charging, they will be shutting down. But R50 is still better then R200+.

So ROAG may have to shut down if fees are not paid - Ill be happy with R50 for a year - I dont need all the fancy smancy things that go with being joined to other clubs where fees are applicable. What would be acceptable fees for ROAG ?

They have my vote for sure.

Fixed. NOT FIXED.....BROKEN NOW! :P

How do you get to R800? Is that your invitation club fees included?

Nope.

Lees mooi Parra....

R75......

PLUS

R350.....

PLUS

R375 (New rules states that in order to compete in Cat1 or Cat 2 racing you have to be part of a TEAM! Vets team MINIMUM is 4....Team entry = R1500....Thus R1500 divide by 4 guys to get into a team to race Categories)

Thus.

R75 Membership

R350 License

R375 Team Entry into racing cats

ALL ADDED UP = R800

Savvy?

And THEN my club fees of R3000 gets added onto that! But that is OK....the benefits there are endless and we get free cough medicine! B)

What do we get for paying our tv license? How many times can we watch the Matrix over again.

I think everyone should just read the csa membership and licensing policy for 2011.

http://www.cyclingsa.com/Downloads/CSA_Membership_and_Licensing_Policy_2011_V2.pdf

There is a FAQ page which tells everything.

1st line in policy"everyone must join CSA"
