More drawing pins at the Cradle this morning

the road is quiet, there is sufficient space to overtake the cyclists, even though the little truck had to wait a couple of seconds. Oh, the waiting thing, never killed anyone, not waiting has.

hmmmm... pic 1 agreed 100% - cyclists totally in the wrong blocking traffic

second pic - only 1 cyclist riding correctly - the others all to the left of a solid white line - not actually correct - they are supposed to be in the road, keeing left the way the one rider is riding

3rd pic - all cyclists in the "new" strip created FOR cyclists

sorry Krutch, but your pics have just ruined certain of our (cyclists) arguments against fellow cyclists.

darnit now i need to pop my action cam onto my SV to go get useful "ammo" cos you only gave us 1 :P

I would strongly suggest that ALL the cyclist affected by this drawing pin debacle go and lay a charge of Malicious Damage to Property at the SAPS office serving that area. If they go en masse, with photo's of drawing pins all over the road and the damaged Tyres and Tubes, the Police cannot ignore it and must investigate.

This is wasting the Police`s time as they have FAR more important things to do!

Rather sort these guys out yourselves.

ps Krutch - "faster bikes" and "and you get these idiots" - surely the fast bikes on narrow public roads (or any public roads) are also idiots, of the worst nature because they give all us bikers a bad name

(sorry, but there is nothing that annoys me more than the "its my race track" attitude of fellow-bikers... if you can afford the fast bike and the arlen ness gear then you can afford to attend track day)

(shakes her head) :( So that makes it right?????

So agree with you

it is not only morally wrong (due to being inconsiderate) but legally wrong too

the worst is that the same people who say it's fine for cyclists to hold up traffic (either by riding abreast or "owning" the whole lane or whatever) are often the same people who complain about slower cars when they are driving... *sigh*

Sorry, by fatsre bikes I meant motorbikes, I should have said that properly.

While I know people are guilty from both sides, if it was my ass on a pedal bike on a road like that, I'd be damn sure to be out of the way of cars or motorbikes. Being hit won't just hurt, it'll kill.

a bit of compromise from a few people in the cradle, and these thread(s) won't be reaching the amount of pages they did. Is it so difficult to wait a couple of seconds, then go past.

I'd like to know, that is a quiet area in terms of traffic, how many times does it happen that cyclists actually hold up traffic, not for less than 5 seconds. Anyone?

That road was very far from quiet. Waiting never killed anyone, that's true, but it may piss someone off so much that they'll chuck pins in the roads :P

Again, I dunno but if there's an irate driver behind me hooting for me to get out the way, I'll pull over. I guess I just don't like the thought of possible impending pain?

Haha, that was the point, not all are in the wrong.

Also, if that'sa dedicated bike lane, who polices it? On that whole stretch we drove on (and it was some stretch, you cyclist people are insane - I'd die after 2km!) we never saw one Metro. I thought there would be considering the amount of cyclists as well as the moroebikes that are known for speeding and having no plates on, also the cars that speed there.

Sad that the authorities aren't there to protect anyone, rather make money in the populated areas where accidents hardly happen.

Huh, very far from quiet. Ah well, then the cyclists are in the wrong. We ride on roads that are quiet, but when a car appraoches we keep left(single file) mostly they're tolerant and overtake in the other lane if possible. We haven't had an incident with agnry motorists.

Krutch, by now you should know... the metro busa's hang out on the satellite road cos that's "the best" plac eto wind it :P and seeing as that's the sum total of metro on duty on a weekend they focus on getting those speeding bribfines paid so they don't care to keep an eye on the cradle route :P
