Hi fellow cyclists.

I'm puzzled. I'm a strong fit competative cyclist that trains hard, races a lot and enjoy my cycling. But for a month or so I'm struggling. A week before the 94.7 I went out for a training ride (about 80km) and I really struggled, could only manage 40km. I thought I was maybe coming down with flu, but felt ok during the pre-week to the 94.7. On the 94.7 I also had a bad ride, struggled a lot with the climbing (was training for a sub 3 and only just managed a sub4), but thougt it was just not my day. Yesterday I went out for another training ride, and I was REALLY struggeling. I've trained through winter and usually do a 80km training ride in less than 2,5 hours taking it easy. Yesterday it took me nearly 3 hours, with absolutely no power in my legs. I've gone for some blood tests, but they are clean. I'm really concerned. Maybe overtrained, I really do not know....

What do you guys think... I've heard about "dead legs" from over training, but I'm not sure. After a cycle I feel fine, but during a cycle my heartrate is also a lot higher than usually... What should I do...

It really feels like my preformance has gone backwards by about a year.

I'm really worried

Sleep pattern? Are you getting enough rest?

Are you on your legs the whole day @ work?

Eating correctly?

Can be a number of reasons.

If you are ok with all the above then prob over training! Lay of the bike for 1 full week. Keep your feet up!

Did the test your iron levels in your blood? Low levels of iron has the same symtoms as over training and it could be that your diet might not be correct.

Recovery, recovery, recovery, take it easy for a couple of days, at least a week or more. Had the same issue and locked the bike away for 7 days, I felt great on my return.

Racing season is over, take a week or two off the bike, recover/rest properly, and then give it another go. If problem persist, look further, but I also think it is overtraining.

I know, same thing happened to me a few years back. Now I train smarter, not just harder.

Training Load Calculation at Polarpersonaltrainer.com

Print

2010/05/21

Polar has introduced a new Training load feature in polarpersonaltrainer.com that tells the user conveniently at a glance on the calendar view how hard the training session was and when the user will have recovered enough for the next session. The training load feature takes out the guesswork, helping the user find the perfect balance between rest and training. With this new feature users can control their total training load, optimize their training by adjusting the intensity and duration of the session, and monitor their performance development. Continuous monitoring of training load and recovery will help recognize personal limits, avoid over or under training, and adapt training program according to daily and weekly targets.

Thanks guys,

I also suspect it only to be over training, will take this week of and race on Sunday.

Hopefully I'm back to my normal self on Sunday on the bike!!

have a blood test done for EBV, even if only to rule it out. sounds like it's more prevalent than folks think and you'll hurt yourself in the long run if you continue training. buddy of mine currently has it after doing epic, joberg2c and freedom challenge this year. he's been told to stay off the bike for 6 months at least.

check your brakes......

.........maybe the brake pad is rubbing...

What?? Does it happen to you as well? I always check it a few times during any ride but as soon as I get on the bike I swear that it locks again! hahahaha

Also planning your race season better might help. Most people just do add hoc races and keep their training programs the same through the "race season". It is very important to taper before a big race.

So my advice is to plan your racing season, decide which races will be used as training runs to test fueling etc and which races will be PB races.
