  1. Awesome story but it won't even begin to capture their experience. So jealous! I've done a few 'tours' but none would come close to such a journey. Still, once the tour bug has bitten it sits in your blood.
  2. No bro, you should dispose of them now! They were meant to be chucked after a race...so a Sani2Sea will be three wheelsets! I would not ride them any longer
  3. Hehe, naa, they've actually been good otherwise despite this wisdom which was imparted. Just think that they were a little over-eager so I had to clarify this issue with 'the elders' to be found only on TheHub .
  4. Ok, so, from your responses I've picked up that the wheel build is also quite important. I don't know who built the wheels (bought the bicycle second hand) but could find out who built them. I also do not know what kind of spokes were used but the hubs are SRAM hubs. Perhaps I should look at who built the wheelset, but it still won't make them disposable.
  5. Good thing that I have not bought a set of Enve wheels and disposed of them after a race...or even after a hard 'Spruit ride.
  6. Thanks! I must say, I was a little annoyed by this 'advice' but acted interested nonetheless. Just thought that I'd put the question out there in the most neutral way to see what your thoughts are.
  7. Hi fellow Hubbers, So, I would like to have your thoughts and comments on this interesting issue as I'm a bit perplexed by this recent opinion that I've received on the ZTR Crest rims that I have on my MTB! I've very recently been told by someone, apparently in the know, that the ZTR Crest rims that I have on my MTB are actually made as 'disposable, one day race rims' and that I should rather purchase a different set of rims for my MTB. I was advised that I should get a set of rims that are more durable and which are not disposable. Strangely enough, the person that advised me had different rims at his bicycle shop that are, according to him, more durable and would be 'better suited' for me. I was also told that the ZTR Crest rims have a weight limit of 85kg. To briefly explain my position in this picture - I do cross-country riding with my MTB, which is a hardtail, and I am well below the weight limit of 85kg as I weigh 74kg. I have, despite some research on the google-machine, never heard that ZTR Crest rims are designed to be disposable. I asked this person whether it would be correct to state that, if I've done a race, e.g a marathon, it would be advisable to dispose of the wheels after the race. I was advised that this is exactly what the ZTR Crests were designed for - race, dispose. Just so you know, I have not bought the 'more durable' rims from the bicycle shop and will continue riding the 'disposable' ones for now. Until I can dispose of them, I will keep them Your thoughts, questions and comments of these 'disposable race day rims' will be most welcome! Ciao
  8. Maybe the carbon has enough spring in it? My two-cents worth
  9. Santa Cruz High Ball...hardtail...seriously light and it is a wonderful ride.
  10. Just got a new set of saint flat pedals for my bike from the Trailhead! They didn't have any sets in stock last week and Sean promised to get me a set. He phoned me on Friday to update me with progress and to let me know that the order has been placed. Got the call yesterday to tell me that the pedals have arrived! Sean even offered to loan me a set over the weekend while I wait for the new ones to arrive. Thanks Sean for great and friendly service! I will definitely recommend your shop to my mates and colleagues.
  11. My mate has recently bought one - contact him if you wish! His name on here is Rudi-H. I've ridden his bike around a bit and it is insanely comfortable. It feels like a tank but does not feel sluggish or clumsy in any shape or form. The bike is seriously amazing. and...can't go wrong with Santa Cruz (IMHO) (I've just bought the HighBall myself - but I like cross country quite a bit).
  12. Thanks Chris, attended on Saturday and learnt quite a bit! The basics looked much easier than they actually are. I realised how much there is to learn!
  13. I always thought that it is "no brain, no pain!" (bro!)
  14. Hectic...but I do hope that all the riders safely discarded their used energy bar/protein bar wrappers...
  15. Nice, but a little too Italian-baroquish... Oh, and I drive a Nissan bakkie as well!
  16. I've battled a little bit to shed the kilos - even with loads of cycling I didn't lose any but in fact gained some pounds around the waist. Then, beginning of the year I decided that I've had enough of this blubbery (weighed 85kg - but had no idea what my fat % was). I love good food, wine and beer but decided to simply eat less and drink less. I applied no science behind my approach and hoped that common sense would assist. Instead of a couple of beers at a braai I'd have one beer and then whiskey, only ate a small plate of food with each meal, drank lots of water, cut out sugar/sweeteners etc, continued going to gym and now...I've lost 10kg since the end of January 2014. I now weigh - depending on the scale - 73-75kg and am aiming to get to 70kg. I've never felt better, more energetic and healthier than I have in years. My flab is almost gone! I quit stuffing my face, whether it was at braais, on my own, while cycling, etc.
  17. According to this newspaper article Daryl Impey has allegedly tested positive for a masking agent used to mask the use of banned substances! http://goo.gl/nYHmKE
  18. Howdee, I did a cycling trip with 3 of my buddies December 2 years ago and rode from PE to Buffelsbaai. We went through the Baviaans Nature Reserve with a back-up vehicle. We stayed at Komdomo on the second night of the trip and then rode through the reserve to 'Bo-Kloof' if my memory serves me correctly. Did 104km with a tad over 2000m ascent and rode 12 hours...it was the most rewarding cycling trip of my life!
  19. Noted, but they could probably do it in crocs too... I think that a distinction should be drawn between making claims that are unfounded (which was the subject of the class action lawsuit) and mere 'puffery' about the qualities of the shoes. No doubt that one can run in them etcetera (even do marathons such as the people you have referred to) but one cannot claim something that cannot be substantiated, ie. material claims in a legal sense - then it would be a material misrepresentation.
