Need to take the family pet (a Jack Russell) with us on our sedate mountain bike rides! So I need to fit some or other bike carrier. Any other Hubber do this. Any suggestions? Where do I start?

My dogs used to just run along.Thats the general idea that they also get some exercise

Wasn't there a lady not so long ago prosecuted for animal abuse for doing this. If I remember correctly she rode her bike and had the dog on a leash running next to her.

Take off the leash

I presume you are riding in the bush and the dog is trained

Jess is too old to do much more than a 2/3km run. So we need to put her in a back pack or some kind of carrier. Loads of good stuff found when I googled...but can't seem to find anything in SA! Too late in the year to start ordering from overseas!

I dont know where or if there is a carrier for a bike, but I wanted to take my boxer puppy (6 months old) with me to my holiday home in Cape Town for a week recently.

The first issue was getting a box, my vet said to keep the animal comfortable the box has to be big enough for the dog to stand up and turn around in - sounds fine hey - well let me say the box is almost the size of my couch and cost around 1600 bucks, so unless you intend carrying a couch on your bike I think you may want to rethink that. :D

Getting the dog on the airplane was another issue as well, documents, time and cost wise its a real headache - but thats another thread.

Look for a firm bag or basket, get some velcro and make your own - (attach to handlebar)

What????I ride with my Husky 3 times a week for 5 - 10 km to give him some exercise, usually on non tar roads,if I try jogging with him he just keeps on going and doesn't get tired at all!

Do you know where this was?

That is flippen awesome! how do people get their jack russels so well trained?, our 3 year old jack reckons hes being held in a maximum security prison, and the first sniff of freedom (off the leash) he gets, and hes gone like a flash!

Please just remember that it is seriously hot and having your dog run with you for goodness knows how many kms is not good. Dogs can over heat easily and the last thing you want is a dog with heat stroke whilst 20km from the nearest point of help. For young and energetic dogs its great, but be considerate for older dogs.

Still a young dog of 6 months and he's trained / born to run, started with shorter distances an never go over 10km,and always ride early in the morning or late in the afternoon.Always give him plenty of water during the rides.
