I have a problem. I know that to loose weight in a sustainable manner and keep it off I need lots of exercise, a proper controlled calorie intake that does not rely on "weight loss" products pills and shakes. And a healthy well balnaced diet.

That is easier said than done!

I just cant seam to rid my lard ars of the last 8kg of my ideal weight. I think its got to do with my hunger cravings. If i fight it it goes away but shi%$ its hard man. Much tougher than the hardest ride!

Does anyone have suggestions tips etc to stop these damn hunger bouts?

I have heard that if you take cinnamon it curbs your cravings for something sweet when you are hungry.

This is from a website: "Cinnamon

Creates a thermogenic burn. It reduces cholesterol levels – in particular, lowering bad cholesterol while leaving good cholesterol the same. It is cinnamon’s effect on blood sugar that makes it a potential help in the war against obesity, insulin resistance, sometimes known as "prediabetes," and the "Metabolic Syndrome." Cinnamon can be used in its powdered or stick form, adding it to drinks and foods, or as a supplement."

I hope that helps and I am sure that loads of other people will have suggestions

I'm in the same position you are, I cycle regularly, eat pretty healthily but last night succumbed to a hunger craving that had me ingesting like a million calories in one go (rusks and bread with cream cheese)! The only thing I can think of now, is to clear the kitchen of bad stuff and keep only healthy stuff so when I do get a craving I can grab something that I can eat a million of and not put on weight, like celery or apples or something along those lines. I feel your pain :D

The last few kg's are tough. I have pretty much lost all the fat and now I'm on to the upper body muscle mass which is even harder to get rid of after sitting there for 15 years :(

Here's the approach that helped me:

Eat high fibre stuff and wholefoods that take longer to digest, whole rolled oats, all bran, wholemeal toast etc. You'll stay full for longer without packing on the poundage. At supper time try to stick to slow burn carbs and combine them with lean protein to further slow down the digestive process - quinoa, brown rice, wholewheat pasta, cous cous etc, instead of white rice, pasta, chips and so forth.

Try to keep your blood sugar balanced and you'll store less fat and have fewer cravings - cut out sugar - use Xylitol instead - and try to drink less caffeine and booze (tough time of year for this admittedly).

Drink low cal squash or just plain water instead of fruit juice and soft drinks. Train on 32GI and water instead of glucose based energy drinks.

Edited by Luke.

Careful here, too much and your sugar goes haywire.

Ok Luke now were geeting somewhere! This makes sense. I will try the cnamon suggestion too. Yep I like my Coffee. Have 2 cups a day. The thing is just to curb the hunger pangs man. I have followed weight watchers points system and yep it works to a point. But how many fu#$@ weeks will it take for my body to adjust and drop the hunger pangs and cravings? Will I have to live like this for the rest of my life or just accept that I will be a fit fat bloke for the rest of my life?

It HARD man HAAARD :cursing: . I use to think its only a matter of exercse but now at 38 I can see that erm 1 hour training sesions every day during the festive season and eat healthy foods as much as you feel like does not = weght loss.

It's got to be better than 10pm snacking on tomato flavored crisps dipped in cream cheese

Ye, I have been drinking a lot of coffee for a looong time. What I've realised is that the caffeine gives you cravings and spikes your blood sugar the same way sweet / high gi foods do, so I'm trying to cut down and replace with green tea or yerba mate when I absolutely have to have some (usually first thing in the morning is hardest).

My wife has done weight watchers and it worked for her, but personally I've never bothered with the calorie counting / points system stuff. I don't think I could do it and I don't really need to - I'm usually full on the foods I mentioned in my last post and I snack on the healthy / high fibre stuff throughout the day. On rest days I'll try not to eat too much and I only take recovery drinks after really hard sessions. If I get hungry and I know I shouldn't be eating more I'll have some raw veggies - a carrot or similar rabbit food - and have a cup of green tea or yerba mate - keeps you going for another couple hours. haha

Losing the last few kg's takes a while, so if you are already eating right then I guess you just have to be patient. You can't lose more than like half a kg a week I guess and sustain the weight loss long term.

Stay busy. I eat when I'm bored. Or just eat smaller meals more regular so that you basically never get hungry.

Ye, not all fruits are created equal in terms of their glycemic load. Apples are actually pretty good - they break down pretty slowly with a GI of around 38. Strawberries are meant to be really good. You can eat a ton of them without putting on weight.

Here is a GI / GL reference table.GI is how fast the food breaks down. GL is more relevant to dieting in that it combines the GI with the total calories. Check out how low the GL is for strawberries for example:

Thanks guys...this all makes sense. Bottom line no quick fix, no such thing as a free lunch, stay disciplined and hope it gets easier.

Google "negative calorie foods"

Negative calorie foods are foods, which use more calories to digest than the calories food actually contains! Good stuff to snack on.

Its hard for me too, especially since quitting smoking. As Mampara mentioned, stay busy as much as possible. I tend to eat more when watching the TV or surfing the net...thankfully its almost mango time!!

I have "In Shape" cottage cheese in my fridge (the smooth one). Not many calories in there. I also buy the low fat Mediterranean tubs of Tzatsiki, feta & herb and Humus. I eat them with Provita. Also have fruit in my fridge and avocados
