Vetseun Posted January 4, 2011 Share Suppose ya'll read about that dude that was caught doing 235kmph outside Bloem. Those of you that do the OFM Classic will know the road at Glen. Most roadies in Bloem cycle that road. What makes it worse is that he is a MEC of the local ANC government. But why am I not surprised. These guys have these enormous ego's they are all getting fatter by the day whilst they enjoy the benifits of thier social standing. Oh and of course he has an excuse, his mother wasn't feeling well. Ja damn good motivation to drive at 235kmph on a road full of cyclists. The state attorney has asked for a fine of R24000 with half of the amount suspended for 5 years. Effectively he will have to pay R12000. For somebody who takes home R60 000 (before bribes and kickbacks) he will pay it with a smile. Frikken joke
LeTurbo Posted January 4, 2011 Share Let's hope he only used to take home R60 000. From what I hear, he'll be suspended because of his new criminal record ... oh, but wait, they usually do that on full pay. For years and years.
Mackie Posted January 4, 2011 Share At least Lolly Jackson's record of 249kph stands, he was late for church though.
MTB_Roadie Posted January 4, 2011 Share that means he can become president or take some top CEO job cause he got a criminal record now...
Vetseun Posted January 4, 2011 Share Unfortunately for him the ANC has already accepted his appology so he wont be on suspension with full pay until he retires one day. Let's hope he only used to take home R60 000. From what I hear, he'll be suspended because of his new criminal record ... oh, but wait, they usually do that on full pay. For years and years. Aedon Posted January 4, 2011 Share Heard an interview with the head of the National Roads authority last night on thismatter. While the law states if you are 40 k's over the limit you must be arrested, however because this twit apologised and admitted his fault it is left to the Magistrateto decide what your fine and/or "community service" allocation will be, and becausehe is an MEC his job is seen as a community service so they are not in a positionto impose any further penalties. Did anyone say "party graft"?Just you or I do it and lets see what happens.
Buell Posted January 4, 2011 Share It's not just officials speeding on OUR roads, how about the ding bats on their Superbikes klapping big speeds round the Hartebeespoort and Hekpoort area's and their usual breakfast run spots,I am sure some are in excess of 240+.The roads are total choas and people just do what they want, Govt Officials, Mommy in the X5 taking Johnny to school the wannabee boy racers in their M3's the drivers with no number plates etc etc if you do a poll on the Hub and people are honest I am sure their will be a huge percentage of people that speed and they will speed on the same roads the cyclist are using, some will say not at 235km/h.. but you can also kill people doing 80km/h in a built up suburb and from my obseravtion a huge percentage of drivers are doing about 20-30km/h faster in the suburbs and built up areas.....now that's my rant time to take my chill pill for the day
Mojoman Posted January 4, 2011 Share I once asked our local cops why they did not target the bikers that speed around Magalies, his answer: We can't catch them Sir!
Starvin' Marvin Posted January 4, 2011 Share The new law states the if you are 30kmh and 40kmh above the urban and national speed limits you lose your licence. Now if this tjop does not lose his he will set a legal precedent.
Frosty Posted January 4, 2011 Share Speaking of cyclists near Bloem... Driving back on Sunday morning (from Cape Town) I saw a number of cyclists on the N1 (southbound) - about 10Km north of the Caltex Star Mart.No they weren't your township dikwiele, but roadies (could make out one Specialised). Vetseun Posted January 4, 2011 Share Ja the roadies dig that route, either do the Glen route or ride to the toll gate and back. Cops dont seem to mind but I suppose it is pretty dangerous.
Mongoose! Posted January 4, 2011 Share I am a Bloemfontein roadie. We try to avoid the N1 (Glen route during the peak times - school holidays.) We ride the Kimberley road.
