I am really horrified to hear what has happened here!! When the unification process started many years ago PPA was quite clear that for their rides these petty rules on kit would not apply (their is even a rule on socks). I discussed this last night with some people and they were of the opinion that leagues were not happening then - I disagreed.

Are you sure Icycling, wasn't it the case that you can only ride in the kit what is on your lisence?

Unfortunately one rider transgressed the kit/license rule recently to the extent that they will have to check the licenses from now on.

hagar, no worries.  Back in the PPA alphabet soup you don't have to concern yourself with club kit and aggressive riding!  You can ride with any dem thing as long as you have your PPA number pinned to the back of your shirt.  In fat, the wilder the better.  Go for it, next time you can wear that nice Bulls shirt popeye promised to give you!!!!!

If you have a cyclosport license you can ride in your underwear if you like.

At the end of the day this is about "the unification process" which started all those years ago. If you want leagues & proper racing then you need to make sure that it is run formally. If all you want is organised funrides then who cares.

But at the end of the day if you want cycling to grow as a SPORT in this country then all cyclists have to come under the same umbrella. The PPA and WPCA have to become a single entity with separate sub organisations as needed - development, fun-rides, Cycletour (yes Cycletour), leagues etc.

By the way if the unification process started all those years ago why is it not yet a fait accompli?

I might be mising the point, but why is it so difficult to wear the kit of your sponsor? Is it a case of having multiple sponsors? (that's lekker). I'm not taking sides here. I'm trying to understand why people are so upset. PokerFace2007-10-23 12:03:11

Wrong , there were many riders transgressing the rule. the officials were just too slapgat to check. we just used to rock up at the table and Francois took your money and checked that you had a license. the same thing happened in the few winter leagues events that we had.

The Daikin guys have been riding in different kit for at least 2 years now. Jan W won SA's riding his then clubs kit, Club 100, and the next week he will ride Daikin, at a PPA race, where they didnt worry about kit. Now if you have a full licence you may ride SA's but cant ride any kit in a race, only whats on your licence, clubkit or registered sponsor. I take out Cyclosport, can ride any kit in league, and if I decide to go to SA's, I upgrade and race in my clubkit.

But then after SA's I have 2 licences, the cyclosport, and the upgrade, so I will use the old one and ride any kit again.

Groot Lem - some secrets are better kept that - yes we all want everyone to know the loop hole, (I use it too) bur CSA want to close the hole for about 5 years now - I think they might just do it now!
