Hi

I am looking at purchasing either on of these bikes.

The Anthem is slightly cheaper by 2500k

They say the Trek rides better.

Any advice between these two specific bikes would be appreciated

Thanks

have you ridden any of them?? no point in going along with "what they say" because you are going to be riding it so i rate take them both out for a test drive...then decide what works for you best.

I have the Giant and VERY happy. I also had a look at the Trek, but you simply cannot compare the components. With the components in the Giant you would have expected it to be R6k more than the Trek. It is however R6k cheaper.

I also did not like the colour scheme of the Trek.

Did my research as I was concerned about the "thin" joint on the toptube against seat tube on the Giant. It was recalled in the US only. My research indicated that more people cracked the Trek GF frames than the Giant and you still have a lifetime warranty.

The decision was easy.

The one major diff is the sizing.

Trek Large = 19", XL = 21"

Giant Large = 20", XL = 22"

What size do you need. PM me if interested and I will see what cash/internet price I can arrange for you with my contacts.

What pi.... me off was that I could only get the Trek from Cyclelab and they kept promising for two months that it will arrive the next week. They took my number and to date have not even informed me that some arrived.

I was in the same boat - components are better on giant and went with the giant - it's the only one also actively being advertised in any reputable magazine, home and abroad - see add featuring car decker winning sea otter super d on it - anywho I bought the giant and no regrets.

Giant Anthem 29er was the bike of choice at the Oakvalley 24hr.

I am going through the same process but it seems the GF has come down in price and so they are the same price although I havent squeezed for a better price anyone got a negotiated price on either bike

GF 29995 and the giant at 29000 are there better prices bearing in mind still got to convert to tubeless etc

I see the Giant has an RLC vs RL and brakes Avid CR vs Elixer I think and XT vs X9 so its close given that GF has a few years on Giant

I hear the giant wheels might be a bit flexible according to bikeradar although I doubt my abilities would pick that up

any inputs

Also remember that the Trek uses a fork specially made just for them to help with geometry. So you are stuck in choice when you would want to upgrade/repair.

I would go giant...

I went hardtail, and tossed between the giant and the cannondale ht...went for the c dale... I think the giant dual is a great handling bike, was just 3 kg more than c dale.

Also find out from the suppliers what the cost of the rear suspension linkages, bearings and bolts will set you back. You will have to replace these at some point and some makes are damn expensive.

I am in same boat which one to buy, price and spec is not an issue I just want the one that handles the best down hill road the GF and it handled like a pig down hill then road Anthem and was brilliant, so need to retest the GF and hoping I can get the handling and set up right or it will have to be the seroiusly ugly silver anthem.

Had the Giant now for 5 months and has not been sorry for one moment. I had a look again at the GF Hi Fi Pro yesterday at Cyclelab in Fourways and if they offered it at R5k less than the Giant, I will still go with the Giant.

One major item that puts me off the GF - it looks like plastic.

You can get the Giant for R26k. :D

My riding partner bought the Trek 29'er and made such a scene about how much he enoyed the 29" that I decided to buy a 29" bike myself.

After much deliberation I eventually settled on the Giant Anthem X29'er mostly because I thought it would look a bit suspect if my riding partner and I were both on exactly the same bikes.......also helped that the Giant was a couple of grand cheaper and had very good component spec.

I also tend to prefer Shimano components (as fitted to the Giant) and who cannot but love the striking silver/blue colour scheme.

Having riden the Giant for the past month I am a complete fan and believe the bike has transformed by riding........Having said that my mate seems to be similarly pleased with his Trek 29er so probably boils down to personal taste rather than any particular item.

How is this for cute if I go Anthem then my self and the other 2 mates I ride with will all be on identical bikes, we could swap from time to time, maybe the wifes to!!!!

Really, is there anywhere in cape town with that sort of pricing, looking for a large in that silver/ blue colour scheme trying to support LBS but they arent suppliers so its not easy.

what is the consensus about the standard wheelset

Call Paul at olympic Im sure you could get one for 26k , myself and my mate are collecting ours today. I was shocked when I weighed the bike before thge tubeless conversion and it came in at 11.7kg a fair amount lighter than the other brands. As for the STD wheels they were not that heavy 1.8kg so you will spend about 6k to loose about 200g
