Im not sure how other people feel about this, but i received my CSA licence yesterday (for the mountainbiking race side of things)and Im pretty hacked.

Last year for R75, we received a card with all our details and a photo if we chose to send one in when we registered.

This year, not only is it R35 more, but when i 'received' my licence, all i got was a green slip mailed through to me.

On enquiring, i was told that yes, this is in fact the licence and no, you will not receive a card this year (unless you apply for a racing licence)

hello? I applied for a licence so i wouldnt have to pay R33 to CSA every race day, is that not called a race licence?...apparently not

Also, when you apply, they dont ask for a photo at any stage, so now when you receive your green slip, you notice there is no photo, but instead it says that you now have the pleasure of dragging your ID book to every race to PROOVE you are who the slip says you are.

Bottom line is I feel ripped off. For R35 more than last year, I got a green slip of paper that i have to print out and take with my ID book to every race.

What the stuff are we paying R110 for?!?

I am glad about the green slip. Next time I leave my licence lying around or the kids needed something to be creative on, all I do is print myself a new one.

We are proud of our High Performance program, which we are starting to see the results of, as we put final plans in place for 2012 Olympics and begin preparation for 2016. Let us all get behind our South African cyclists and wish them the very best on the world stage.

We have had considerable feedback from members in recent months indicating that printed membership cards serve little purpose and we have taken the decision not to issue them this year. However, you will have received an electronic membership card with this mail which you are free to print out. You may also

want to retain a copy on your mobile phone.

We wish you a successful and enjoyable year of cycling in 2011 and look forward to your feedback. If you have agreed to receive updates from us (which you can do on your profile page) we will be in touch with you in the coming weeks..

Your safety is of paramount importance to us, please ride safe.

Yours sincerely,

it was R75 but then when you get to pay, they automatically add on an extra R35 'provincial' fee! So you end up paying R110 like it or not.

When my mate queried it, they said you have to pay it, and it wont process the payment without adding it on. Im telling you if there was some other way to race i would. These CSA characters are really milking it!

You guys that paid R75, what province are you from?

We paid R75-00 for the yearly membership, plus an additional R350-00 for the racing licence.

Gauteng does not charge additional affiliation fees.

There is space for a photo during the registration process on cyclingsa dot com.

What I like about the fact that you can download a licence is that I can print extra licences, so that everyone has one, in case the original is left at home, lost, etc.

Not bothering printing the licence... and definitely NOT in colour! I was never asked for my card last year, and cannot see that they'll start asking for it this year.

IN any event, the organisers have your ID number, and it should be a fairly simplistic IT function (Heck even in Excel) to match the entrants to the CSA members, and hand the day licence fees over to CSA.

Cannot see why we should drag pieces of paper around in this day and age

WTF!!!!! All you guys simply cannot stop moaning, go play golf and see how much it cost. Buy a bike component to drop your weight by 20 grams for 500 zar, unload 300 zar at the pub for a few beers. And you won't say a thing but as soon as it's CSA, PPA or an organisation concerned with your sport you go apeshit over 110 zar.

CSA has come a long way since 2 years back so suck it up or go play chess - even better go see a therapist.

Very happy with the licencin process this year & Raeleen at CSA is a star.

Sure nobody likes taxes but at our club members just pay (same as last yr)R75 to CSA and R75 to CGC, finish and Klaar.

It's worked out fairly painless.

There is a difference between membership and a license

Membership, everyone must have.

when you have membership you can apply for a license.

You only need a license when you want to do UCI sanctioned events, nationals or provincials.

In WC we dont even need a license for League racing, only CSA membership and correct seeding from PPA.

Mampara on another thread had a suggestion of printing then laminating the lic.

I did similar. Printed it out, signed it and then stuck a recent passport photo to it to pre-empt the need to take my ID book. A visit to PostNet and a couple of Rand later resulted in a laminated card that will last until we go through the same process in 11 months...

Gauteng does not charge additional affiliation fees.

Rather, you guys in Northern Gauteng don't have to pay. We Central Gauteng folks have to pay R75.
