First race after a "sabbatical" from cycling for almost 6 years. Anyway went and found my K group, but then the nerves got the better of me and I needed to visit the portaloos for the compulsory pre-race pee. As i got out of the portaloo, some dude pushed the door closed and I caught my shoe on the closing door. Ripped the ratchet mechanism off my shoe. Needless to say I was less than impressed at this stage as my foot half pulls out at every foot stroke.

3h45 mins later and it was all over - except for the new suntan that required a bit of burnshield to remedy. (Gotta remember the SPF next time)

An hour and 9 mins slower than the last time I did the race in 2004. I'm guessing some serious training is in order.

So, how was the racing in Cats 1-4 and A etc?

What's the verdict on the "strength vs strength"?

cat's werent made up in that way, it was just the age groups thrown into cats, so it was more or less the same as before.

Cat 1 was probably only one that was correct.

A had a few riders whom I know raced licenced before, but racing yesterday was negative, and ended up way slower than what it could have been. So I for one can't answer you - yet

Organisation was a bit below standard and the traffic was a mess. I didn't do the previous "Faster One" but this route was very flat and fast as well, did it in 3hours and my wife & I enjoyed it immensely! Great race.

I knew something was wrong. Our bunch must have done the wrong route. Our route had continuous rolling hills, more ups than downs. Trust me, for us social riders this race was much tougher than the previous route.

Agree with the consensus around the parking, I thought I had 55 mins in hand until I turned off the highway......SH!!!!!!TE, eventually saw my group heading for the start at 6.50 while I was still queing for the throne.

JUUUUST caught the back of the group as they went off, luckily no early shennanigans off the front.

But on the PLUS side the motorbikes and the police van where GREAT on the marshalling front as they cleared a BUNCH of traffic ahead of us.

NOT sure I'll be back unless I hear they have sorted out the start...

Was wondering why the guys were winding it up so fast at the finish too.... until I saw the mats....aha! is THAT where the finish is!

I didn't do the previous FastOne so I have nothing to compare it to.

However the 2010 winning time was 2:14 (103km) and this one was 2:15 (106km) so it must have been similar. The hills were relatively short and not too steep, unlike the 94.7.
