Hi Fritz, I'm the guilty goblin who started the thread. I really think its a great gesture to become involved in the discussion and a good thing to hear what people think in general - that is, the good and the bad and all the other stuff inbetween. I'd really like to continue supporting your Irene shop and, just for having the courage and character to make such a generous gesture, I'd like to challenege evereyone on this thread to visit Fritz's Irene store and rate their experience post 2 FEB 2011. C'mon guys, lets give FP at least that credit and the benefit of his undertaking to stick some smiles on his service dept's faces! Well done Fritz, those are the colours of a champ!

Sies ! guilty goblin

Well done for having the  to apologise.

Lesson learnt ?

If you have a problem with service/smiles/price/attitude go straight to the top FIRST!

If The Top sorts the problem, is apologetic, helps out - POST

If The Top gives you the finger, go someplace else - and tell them why you are there - and POST

NOW I have FP's email, I honestly tried to reach him directly to discreetly discuss it with him - I even regietered on his webiste as a member just to try and mail him, but (and check it out for yourself) all the mailboxes go straight to the shop you're complaining about, not to TOPDOG, so it has to get filtered from the bottom up. Which is why I posted, others joined in the chorus, everyone had a a good vent, and FP stepped up to the plate in fine fashion. Everyone's happy! Thx for the post Drongo

I also have never received anything but poor service from FPC Irene. Here is my incidents:

1) Asked for a continetal tube, the guy answred sorry the sell only the best.

2) Anything tubes going to 2.35 - no we don't cater for that

3) Asked something for my DH bike - Sorry DH is not big in Pretoria we don't cater for DH.

Its fine if you don't stock it but at least you can offer to get me some.....

4) The service deparment once did a jippo move on my bicycle fork (instead of getting the right part).

5) They also screwed up my braking hoses (braked the part of with the swivel eye) and I had to buy new ones

They further got this sales lighty out of matric that think he is gods gift to cycling........

OK all now out of my system......sorry.

Look, I know customer service in the RSA isnt big, but I've also realised that we have this thing of storming out and moaning to our buddies (or the hub)instead of sticking around and taking it up with the owner. This is a good example. I am sure Fritz will use the info you gave him and improve his service as well as getting a system in place to receive feedback. If he doesn't and you don't like it, spend your money elsewhere.

I really have had just about all I can take from the dodgy (service) staff @ FPC Irene. I have been going there for over 3 years now and thought that perhaps my first couple of visits I must've just caught the service guys at a bad time. But it stays the same -each time I'm begrudgingly greeted and helped (very well) but MAN - these guys just make me not want to go there anymore! I recently moved to Irene and so FPC is the closest cycleshop around, but perhaps I was just too spoilt by Bruce Reyneke's friendly staff, I dunno. Anyone out there have any similar (service) experiences? I'd like to hear about it.The sales guys are very helpful and friendly, but sinking down to the basement level where the service dept. is seated is almost like going into another world! Mordor or something, with Gollum the service guy hanging onto his friendliness like something precious. Now I know the easy out is to just not go there, but why penalize FP for his ill tempered staff?

Hallo Astroboy, I think I was in the shop when you lost it with one of the mechanics at FPC Irene. I was so embarrassed with your behavior that I did not even act according to my 1st impulse and confront you about the manner in which you addressed someone. My logic tells me that your first reaction should have been to take the matter to the workshop manager and if that does not yield results, talk to the shop manager. During all my dealings with any of the FPC stores over the past 3 years they have never tried to do me in - to the contrary: their advice has also been professional and worthy to follow. They are human beings and make mistakes, but so do you. So next time when you behave like that again, don't expect any positive service from them ...

....I would rather deal with a kiosk that have stock and are friendly than an uptigth sales person that can cycle but have no personality

Word of advice - good cyclist don't always make a good sales person.

Epic Sports in Doringkloof is FAR better than FPC Irene - to start with they return phone calls :-)

Want too deal with a proper shop? Or need the ego boost of having your @SS licked and B@lls rubbed?

That is exactly why you can have your shop, and I will go to Epic Cycles...

I just got my bike after a service:

Washed. Sparkling clean.

Lubed.

Cleaned BB and regreased, headset and bearings cleaned and regreased. Wheels cleaned and regreased. Looks like a brand spanking new bike. The mech also noted the rear and front brake pads need replacement...

The cost? FREE.

I love my bike mechanic. He treats my bike as if it is his own...Oh wait, it is his own...

SERVICE YOUR OWN DAMN BIKE! :) TRUST NO ONE! ;)
