Help - What Saddle for Long Rides ?

Recommended Posts

Posted

I've got a specialized toupe (143 mm), weigh 94 KG's and am very happy with it. Its very comfy paired with my Cape Storm matrix shorts, although for really long rides i would probably go with the toupe gel.

I must admit that towards the end of last Sundays WCE my butt was getting a bit sore, but with such a flat and bumpy race i'm not sure if any saddle would have helped.

Maybe the problem is not the saddle, but the bike?  Is it an Alu, maybe you need a full carbon, or full steel bike to eat up all the road vibrations that go into the saddle and your butt?

Don't tell me you are in sales !!!LOL Need a new saddle and you want to sell me a carbon bike ??LOL

Yes it is aluminium with carbon stays and carbon seatpost Big%20smile However, I think the real problem is my current weight compared to the design of the saddle which may be more of a racing type saddle. The plan is to get another saddle and later on as I get down in weight use the Thoork again.

The clue might be that the saddle starts becoming painfull at about 2.5 to 3 hours which might be the weight issue - or am I wrong?

Rac, same prob with the Arione!!!  SLR (or is it the SLK), and that's it.  It's the one with the HUGE gat in the middle.

Rac, I'm a bit lighter than you, but when I was still sitting at round-about 100kg I found the SLK was comfy.  Jammer jy's in slaapstad.  Could've lent you one to test.
